Now that 2013 is winding down, it's time to open sign-ups for the 2014 photo a week side challenge. In 2013, we had about 35 people sign up, who created and posted somewhere around 600 new images over the course of the year. The rules are simple. Pick a theme for the year, sign up, start posting, and do your best to leave constructive comments on the images others post. It's a great opportunity to learn from others, try out things that might not do well in challenges, or to get to know the work of others that you may not already know.

If you want to see what we did in 2013, look here.

So anyway, sign up in this thread. I'll post an image thread about January 1.

Sounds like a plan. I need something like this. I'll do "Water & Watercraft". Seems like they're frequently IN my images but my images aren't often OF them...

I would like to explore Black and white with the option for muted color if I feel it will help the image.

Hi,
I would like to go for 'playing with focus'.....figure that if I do lots of photography I may just get away with buying myself a new camera!

I am in, not sure yet on a topic.
12/21/2013 05:24:42 PM · #8
Count me in, though I tried to stick to one topic last year & failed miserably. So, in 2014 I'm just gonna try to post once a week. I hope it will be comment-worthy.

I'm in, although I still have a few weeks to catch up in the 2013 one. I'm not sure of a theme yet - possibly abstract or still life.

Ok 2013 only lasted six weeks! So I'm going to try again but topic free!

ooo! if you want to do abstract, I will try hard to keep up with you!

I only made it halfway through last year. Life got in the way. Life has gotten no simpler but I really need a distraction. I'll try again - also topic free like Enlightened

I'll give it a go. Not sure what... Perhaps it will be a stream of consciousness thing...

I'm in, Everyday something different catches my lens. So make it anything goes.

Having done this challenge for a year now, the people who get through the entire year successfully tend to stick more closely to the idea of posting a picture every week than staying with a single topic. So from my perspective, "anything goes" is a perfectly fine topic. Also, switching topics midyear is perfectly acceptable.

I didn't make it very long in 2013 either. Partly due to time, partly due to trying to stick with the theme. I'll sign up again but without a theme. I also signed up to enter 24 challenges in 2014, which is more than double the nine I have entered each of the past three years. One of my New Year's resolutions is to make the time to shoot more, which is infinitely more fun than my other goals of exercising more and losing weight!

I'm in. Meant to do it last year, but found myself moving cross country and not really in to the swing of things until summer. Subject will be Wildlife and Nature.

Will try to do better this year -- whatever grabs my fancy.
12/24/2013 12:50:31 AM · #19
I would like seriously to try this. Don't know of any restrictions or aims yet; prolly the discipline of once a week is enough.

On that basis, count me in. I may start with Abstract or Black and White as my theme, but "anything goes" is more realistic.

me too, me too.

I think of trying "street" as a theme.
