Yes indeed. Those officers ought to be provided with map reading courses and given proper guidance as to where exactly the county boundaries are. :O)

And assuming they were within country boundaries, you'd then find the rest of their practices perfectly acceptable?

...Never said that! You mentioned a demonstrable problem and I gave you ONE. Maybe I should have added a smiley face... oh wait, I did.

My favorite line in comments from this post "Unless they have the Tardis in there, it's only going to be a small amount." That nails it. These cops are humiliating folks with expensive tests in hopes of catching people with a few ounces of drugs stuffed into their bodies. Meanwhile tractor trailers are rolling and boatloads are sailing past the boarders unhindered.

I guess the video is too graphic for us mild mannered Canadians... cannot be viewed from here.

I most certainly do NOT condone the actions of the police officers in this instance, but taking a licence plate number would do diddle in this country unless you could prove beyond a doubt that the owner was the actual transgressor.

I did find it unbelievable that SHE would be charged with abuse of a child... that is something that ought be directed at the officer(s) doing the shooting.

The recording was made on a dash cam and they had the driver (and her son) on video. As soon as they had the plate, they'd be able to pull the owner's info and tack them down. If the owner was NOT the driver, they'd be able to ask the owner who had their car and other things to determine the identity of the driver. Also, they'd be able to impound the car as evidence once it was located…the owner would have incentive to cooperate in order to get it back. and so on.

Standard procedure in fact. No matter what the result (dope, no dope) the suspect who is medically searched is billed for the expenses incurred.

Yes, and I find that to be exceedingly weird. It's a wide-open door for extreme abuse of police powers, sheesh. "I may not be able to arrest you, but you're gonna pay through the nose!" Is that possibly the underlying reason they're DOING this? Pissed they found no drugs, so doing all this to ding the individual med expenses?

Even better, the whole system is set up such that there is no cost (to them) for arresting you at all, and no matter how it goes after that point there will be a cost to you, minor or major (more often leaning towards major, especially if attorneys get involved)....

Our legal system is already abused on a daily basis, this is only news because the girl's va-jay-jay and anus were assaulted WITHOUT a warrant, otherwise this wouldn't even be noteworthy as it happens at least a few times across the state every day. (and in your state too most likely..)

ETA: And just to be more clear on the answer to your query: No. It is standard practice to bill the person who was searched. If drugs were found the bill would still be delivered.

So just out of curiosity, if (say) you had a warrant to search my house and brought in a team to do it, dogs etc, can I be billed for the cost of the search?

Strangely they don't seem to do that.

However, if you don't answer the door fast enough. Or have a high security home. Or happen to be approved for a no knock raid (I wish you could hear the dogs screaming as they're being shot, it's pretty horrible, or how distraught the man is about it), then you might be in for some very nasty surprises that may include a nearly destroyed house, dead pets or dead you if you don't happen to respond to their commands, a real threat for a deaf person, or at least a very destroyed front door...

Nerve deafness = no balance in the dark : deafness = no lipread in the dark : deafness = slurred speech by normal standards.

Now go live in a community on the beach with lots of students and hippies and such, where they run regular sobriety checks at roadside. Drive around in a hippie van.

Guess how many times I'm hauled off on suspicion of drunken driving? Before portable breathalyzers...

That sucks Bear. Thank God they can now provide a roadside sobriety check. That must have been exasperating for you.

This incident is from Tennessee, and not nearly as egregious as others posted here, but it may explain how the police can get a drug-sniffing dog to "alert" on someone who is not in possession of any drugs.

This is the way they treat everyone who doesn't look rich..

The real question is what we, the people, are allowing this.... It's now gone so far that this isn't an anomaly or anything of that sort, intimidation and circumvention of constitutiaonlly guaranteed personal protections are either a part of the training, or they're just "SOP"..

It should be obvious to anyone who's watching this that they're completely violating his right to unreasonable searches - they're just hoping to get lucky and find something/anything to charge him with.

The attitude and actions of these condescending asshole cops is pretty much typical of my interactions with them...
