Yeah......me.

I got DQed in the phobia challenge. Complete mental failure. I was looking for a Free Study entry at 9:00 on the 31st, found one that I felt I could use, and then saw the Phobia challenge. I thought that the image that I had would fit nicely in that challenge, and thought "Cool!" 'cause I had nothing in mind for that one.

Except that I shot it three weeks prior and in my going for a Free Study it didn't matter......but it sure did for Phobia.

What a moron!

Only my second DQ in 6 1/2 years.......the other one was stupid, too! LOL!!!

So sorry to hear that. But you know it happens. You are only human. :)

DQ'ed for stupidity -- yeah, I've been there. Sorry to hear the news, Jeb.

I'd say the majority of DQs are stupid. I have 4 under my belt (in 607 challenges), and only one wasn't stupid.

The first one, I did a save as, thinking that it would leave the original untouched. Nope -- it tagged it as a photoshop elements file because of a setting in the organizer. I don't consider that one stupid. I had no idea that it would change the file type doing a save as!

Then I accidentally erased an original when cleaning out all the extra files from that shoot. Stupid

Then I thought it was ok to draw text in expert editing, since you could draw basically anything else. I just thought you couldn't use the text tool.

And then I realized that the screen capture on this shot showed all my current entries on the left side of the screen, so in the last minutes, I just took old pictures and pasted it over my entries. Thought it was existing artwork, so it was ok. Nope. Had to be photos taken during the time frame. I had photos taken during the time frame. I just realized I shouldn't disclose my current entries, and made the quick change without thinking. DQ. Stupid.

So -- majority of DQs are stupid. :)

I found a coffee cup in my refrigerator a couple weeks ago. I don't even know how long it was in there.

Don't quite know what coffee has to do with anything -- I thought we were talking about Dairy Queen...

Hey Jeb, It would have been easier just to self-DQ when you realised the mistake.

True.....but I didn't realize it until I was DQed.

MY question is: the challenge is still in voting, so why was Jeb's entry called for validation in the first place? There's layers to this we're not seeing peeled back. Time for the DBI to step in and make the site safe for democracy again? No prices is too great to pay, to reveal the TRUTH! :-)

Must've been a heck of a topazing, all right: I abuse Topaz (or Nik) on a regular basis and nobody tries to bust ME!

You cannot "self-DQ" when there has been a rules violation. You can "self-report" (which can sometimes mitigate any disciplinary action), but it is otherwise just a "regular DQ" ... the "self-DQ" option is only open for withdrawing an otherwise legal entry, and the only effective difference betweeen the two types of DQ are that a "self-DQ' can be hidden, while a "regular DQ" will be displayed at the end of the challenge results.

Such things can happen. Got 2 DQ's myself. Not happy with that, but sometimes you more busy with the photo than the rules.

Oh there's a death penalty - pretty much the same as the death penalty for being alive, though, and they can be served concurrently.

yeah well the idea was not to tell you about the rules violation!

While the penalty for a rules infraction is quite nominal, the consequences of lying to us about it can be a lot more serious. Just remember the lesson of Watergate: in this type of matter the cover-up is always worse than the "crime" ...

How did they know it was not taken during the correct time frame before the end of the challenge?

No need to lie! Just request a self DQ! The onus is always innocent until proven guilty!

The rules regarding a self-DQ require that there be no rules violation. If you request a self-DQ, you are attesting that it meets the requirements for such a request; if it does not, that attestation would be a lie.

I'm curious as to why you'd want to be encouraging deception and (let's be plain) cheating here, instead of merely congratulating the OP on his adherence to the rules and offering sympathy/empathy for the situation.
