I've seen videos of murmurations, but I don't know that I've seen one quite like this.

Truly beautiful and amazing!!

Followed the link and watched. The getting there and the far distance shoots of the beginning ariel dance had me react "O.K. looks pretty." But THEN!...Then the 0.50 time mark hit where the mass of birds flew overhead and my jaw hit the floor and heart started racing. Oh what a rush it must have been to be there to feel the woosh and the sounds! Thanks for sharing that Wendy.

Awesome! A couple years ago we saw a murmuration of starlings on the Cape that was pretty impressive, but it was NOTHING like as extensive and "musical" as this one was...

I've seen smaller murmurations (don't know if you'd use this word for other species) of what I would call sandpipers on the Oregon Coast. While smaller, they are cool in that the top of the bird is brown and the underside and wings are white. This allows the "cloud" to suddenly change color. It was one of those things that video would have been far better for than photographs.

"Murmuration" is specific to starlings, which flock in HUGE numbers and move in massive syncopations. The collective noun for Sandpipers is a "fling" :-)

Nice. We get very good ones over the Brighton piers here in sussex. They look great on video but harder to catch on stills.

Cool video - thanks for sharing, Wendy. I took these snaps on my way home from work a few weeks ago:

This was taken a few years ago on a trip to Rome with Melethia:

Twice a year outside my old office a flock of birds would swoop and land on the branches in the afternoon to feast on the seeds. They would do so for about 3 minutes, then, like a loud bang hit, just all leave in a flock all at once. It was an awesome sight, even on the smaller scale.
