Gah!! I just bought 4 last week...

But spot tool now works as a brush stroke!

I'm gonna give it a run... I'll install it on my laptop where I can load a small test library and play without affecting anything else.

It may be in the free upgrade window...but if not, you can probably return it still, especially if you bought from Adobe directly.

The Advanced Healing Brush is awesome!! Its basically like Content Aware in Photoshop --- finally, we have a tool to clone out unwanted elements in the image!

can wait to try it. they modified the spot removal tool to go from clone to clone or heal in the last release i believe, now they went full blown brush, sweet, i got sick of placing spot edits all over :)

I bought 4 about a month ago. Do they usually give cheap upgrades?

I think they should be able to give you upgrade for free, why you dont start talking to the Adobe customer service and give them heads up!

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

Be sure that you have a 64 bit OS. Vista is the minimum supported version of Windows.

I know this was available in Lightroom 4, but just noticed the adjustment brush for noise reduction. What a fantastic feature!

How does lightroom compare to elements?
Say lightroom 4 to elements 11.

it doesn't, completely different software.

lightroom is an editor and cataloging software. Elements is Photoshop lite. Elements is more powerful in what kind of editing you can do, light room's main point is in editing efficiency and managing your catalog.

if you take lots of pictures, need to keep them organized, need to quickly batch edit lots of images and don't really need to get your hands dirty in photo manipulation, lightromm is your tools. if you are a hobbiest and only need to edit an image here or there, then elements (or photoshop is what you want).

i personally use both LR and photoshop, i mainly use LR, but there are times when it just doent cut it and i need to use photoshop to edit an image, luckily they work really well together.

put it this way, lightroom can handle basic and advanced editing, photoshop can do those and expert editing. A typical shoot for me run about 100+ or shots and i edit and give out about 10-15. if i had to use photoshop on all those i'd shoot myself. there are ways to automate in photoshop, but with lightroom it does all the repetitive lifting for me.

Thanks Mike (not 311)
I've had both for a few months and never installed lighroom.
No reason why I just chose Elements 11 to install first and didn't want to learn both at the same time.
Now I'm wondering if it's worth installing lightroom.

it is if you manage large amount of pictures. do yourself a favor an watch a few tutorials on how to set it up and use its, its not really intuitive.

I'll second the not intuitive part.

You can select images in LR and then open them for editing in Elements (or the editing software of your choosing)

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far in Lr 5, but I am more than slightly disappointed that there is *still* no GPU support. Folks have been clamoring for GPU acceleration at least since 3.X, and I thought for sure that it would make its appearance in 5.X.
04/16/2013 03:05:08 PM · #25
gpu support would have been nice....

I m into the cloud thing so i'll get the option to update - not sure i'll do it before i read some solid reviews. I m interested a bit in the new editing capabilities.

ps: Kirbic, i've finally figured out a decent workflow in LR combining advice from you with the other things i was doing already. Still not editing events in 2 hours like i'd like, but i m getting close.
