Whew. First of all, I hope it's okay to count birds at the zoo (combo of exhibits, indoor flight house, outdoor flight area, and the zoo grounds)... Second, I thoroughly enjoyed this. I spent hours some days trying to ID birds - I felt like I was back in grad school again. I really did learn so much - not just about birds but about how to shoot BIF. And I made some new friends here on DPC. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this! I really knew nothing at the beginning - I couldn't tell a sparrow from a swallow. I think I've found a new hobby...

Wanted to update my Bald Eagle picture. I held off on posting it because I was considering using it for the April FS, but chose something else.

Held these back, one is an outtake I would have loved to use but the editing would have been suspect and the other was my entry. The babies are starting to limb and are flapping quite often, one fell out of the tree and I got to watch him climb back up the tree a few times so they are great fun to watch. more photos will follow as time permits.

This little guy fell out of the tree earlier this week, he went across the field over a road and was sitting in front of a Montessori school right in the entrance and would not let the kids out or the Moms come in, they called me and told me our owl was over there which cracked me up, they thought is was one of the parents but when I got over there it turned out to be one of the juveniles. The Montessori school wanted to get him away from their door so I told them to wait a minute while I got my camera. I ran and quickly got it then took some shots before talking a broom and slowly getting the owl to back away from the door. In the mean time an Animal Control Officer arrived and she talked to a rescue group that thought it would be best to get it back over near the tree with the nest so we helped her coax it into a box and took it back near the tree. About 15 minutes later it started climbing into a tree and for the last few days I find it in a different tree every day but it has not found it's way back to the nest. From what I understand Mom will still care for it even if it is not in the nest but I know we would like it to find its way back to the nest. This is a shot from earlier today and it is looking more and more grown up so it should be flying very soon.
