Finally got a glimpse of the baby Great Horned Owls, shots are not all that great shooting through a dirty window through the trees but it was fun to finally see the babies. It appears there is 2 babies unless another one shows itself, should be great fun to watch.

Update: The Mourning Dove nest is empty as of yesterday afternoon. The eggs should have hatched last Friday or Saturday. One of the adults was on the nest in the morning when I left for work. Something must have spotted the nest, scared the adult off and taken the hatchlings. Alas... Such is nature.
This is the 2nd of 3 broods that have failed. The first one succeeded last year. Perhaps I should remove the remnants of the nest as to discourage another attempt? |

Black Vulture
A juvenile Red Tailed Hawk that was rescued, rehabbed and released. I had just arrived and the folks with the Hawk pulled in to the parking spot next to me. Very lucky! I already have the Red Tail but I wanted to add these images to the collection.
Cooper's Hawk
This Hawk saw the released Red Tail and chased it away.
Song Sparrow
Red Winged Blackbird
Buffleheads
Ruddy Duck
Golden Crowned Kinglet
Black Capped Chickadee
Field Sparrow
Green Winged Teal.
I loved watching the poses they made.
Mute Swan
Northern Cardinal
This male was playing with this stick for a bit then carried it off. Nesting material, I suppose.
Snowy Egret
Great Egret
Double Crested Cormorant
Oystercatcher
Northern Pintail, male
Herring Gull
Great Black-backed Gulls
Northern Harrier, male
The Gray Ghost. I have only seen a Gray adult male one other time. As in this case it was quite far off and didn't offer much of a photo op.

Just have to give a shout-out to my 10-yr-old son, who has been my sidekick through this side challenge. He now has my 30D and since he showed so much enthusiasm, we found a $100 used Canon EF-S 55-250mm from Craigslist so that he could get better shots than with the EF-S 17-85mm. (The other day, he was invited to a friend's house - he took the camera and they sat in the treehouse in the woods and took pictures. That's where the Blue Jay shot came from...).
These are just a small sample of what he has done (and it's hard to use the 55-250 because the diameter is so small - you can hardly see anything...)
