Our assisted living house had an Owl presentation for the residents, the presenters brought over two owls, one was a a great horned owl like the one that is nesting in one of the trees beside our building and the other was this little Screech Owl. Everyone just fell in love with this little guy and if you could legally have one a a pet I am sure everyone would want one!

And at what time of day would this "screech" -- a characteristic so prominent the animal is named for it -- occur most frequently? :-)

BTW you are all doing an outstanding (and astounding) job -- this thread alone is quite the avian gallery!

OK so maybe you need a sound proof room to keep it in, or work nights so you can sleep when it is not screeching,,,, During his visit this little guy kept making a quiet purring noise which was fun to watch because its mouth would open about an inch which seemed like about half its body height, the noise was very quiet and cute but I hear when they want they can make quite a racket.

One more from yesterday. I originally thought this was a juvenile ring-billed gull, but the pink legs lead me to believe its actually a herring gull.

40. Herring Gull (juvenile, probably second year)

So what happened to Hahn?

18" of snow on Monday with another 10" predicted for tonight into Wednesday. My birds have hunkered down. The migrants are steering around Colorado. This, too, shall pass.

We are having a whopper of a snowstorm. Only two images, but wait until the skies clear tomorrow. I saw dozens of migratory birds trapped on the lake by the storm. I'll be out at first light on Thursday.

18. Brown falcon

I'm pretty sure this is a brown falcon but I don't know what the other raptor is in the images linked. All I can say it was a great specticale to watch. I only wish I had at least 400ml of lense instead of 200ml.......as they say size does matter :)

19. Willie Wagtail

One of my all-time favourite birds. It would be hard to find a bird with more character or cheek........just a joy to watch :)

44. Peregrine Falcon, Falco peregrinus

After the big snow, this Peregrine Falcon was preying on migratory birds trapped on Lake Estes.
