I'm not officially in this challenge due to having too much other stuff going on this month, but have briefly looked around and have enjoyed seeing the photos being posted.
vawendy and her family were here to visit last week so we went on a birding binge. We all had a great time and got tons of photos, in spite of some occasional rain.
I ran across this scene and would like to share it with everyone. Details are in the description when you open it.

41. Cassin's Finch, male, Haemorhous cassinii

First of all, I apologize for the bird feeder images. But, we are in the middle of a snowstorm. So, the birds were not active in the wilderness today. But, they found my bird feeder. After a full winter of seeing House Finches, it was a pleasant surprise to see the Cassin's Finch show up today. They are migrating into the high elevation areas for the summer season.

Before listing what I saw today, I just wanted to say that I am thoroughly enjoying this side challenge. I've never been a birdwatcher and have never heard of many of these birds. Who knew there were so many sparrows, for instance?!? Thank you so much for having this challenge - I'm loving it...

I took my kids today to a nearby state park that has a swampy area - we saw quite a few birds. I missed one because the dog barked just as I was about to take a photo of a bright yellow bird. I think I'll leave the dog (and maybe the 5-yr-old) at home next time. ;) (My 10-yr-old is loving it and took quite a few photos of his own with my old camera).

30. Swamp sparrow

31. White-breasted nuthatch

32. Downy woodpecker (male + female)

33. Gadwall (it's quite a distance away but that's my best guess)

34. Great egret (I was curious about the green around the eye in the second photo - different egret - but read that the green appears during breeding season)

35. Green-winged teal (another one off in the distance - I think I got it right but not sure)

And better pictures of the chickadee and yellow-rumped warbler (I'm not counting this chickadee because I'm not sure of the other one I have - they may both be black-capped, carolina, or a combo - I have no idea):
