Hey all, I'm interested in getting some professional exposure to portrait photography to see how its done on a day-to-day basis.

Would like to know if there are any Atlanta photographers that would be willing to let me sit in on a shoot or two just to see how its done in real work business setting.

I expect no payment, no special care or consideration - would just like to sit in a corner somewhere out of the way absorbing all I see and hear. If you can put me to use holding booms, or moving lights/props, i'm more than willing.

Obviously, I work a full 9-5 during the week, so would ideally be a weekend shoot.

Hopefully someone here can help me out, or could recommend someone in the area.

Thanks,
Garry

if you don't find anyone here, I'd try facebook, and google to search some out and just call them up to ask. Doesn't hurt to do and can certainly help you get exactly what you're looking for.

As for sitting there and not doing anything, i suggest asking to work as an intern or assistant instead. The idea of an extra body in studio looking at your subject and yourself is a bit less appealing than active help at hand.

Let us know how things go!

Thanks for the suggestion, Devinder.

As mentioned, I already work full time, so I'm not looking for a permanent arrangement. Just the opportunity to witness first hand how studio portraiture process works. Maybe one or a few days at most.

Also, as stated, I'm more than willing to help in any capacity to compensate for my.presence, but I don't expect anything more than just letting me sit in a dark corner somewhere to absorb.

You're welcome

i started out seeking weekend work to assist photographers when i wanted a taste of the professional scene (its quite varied) . In the beginning, all i'd get was 1-2 chances a month on a weekend. I think what you're looking to do given your time restrictions definitely can be done. I am located right by NYC so that might have skewed things in my favor a bit, but i hope you're able to find similar opportunities.
