I find myself in a fortunate bind .

An organization I've worked before for has offered to let me put a 1/4th page ad in their newsletter. The catch, the deadline is tomorrow. I've never done an ad in a newsletter before and am hoping for some direction if anyone here has experience.

Here's what i know:

i need it to be 3x4
i want it to match the general look and feel of my website devsodhi.com (which my business cards do as well).

There's little time, and my experience with design is not at a high level. Anyone willing to share ideas? I'd appreciate it.

I'll take a look -- I have experience in graphic design.

Is this color or B&W?
What file format do you need for the final product?

keep it REALLY SIMPLE

your name
your phone
your email
your website
a reason for the reader to call you
relevant artwork (hopefully something that ties you to the reader)

I'll post a low-resolution mockup in a few minutes. You can copy it yourself, or send me the high-res photo and the name of your main font and I'll put it together for you.

this ^^^ the marketing manager for the firm i work for is a good friend of mine. all of the above is his motto, don't gum it up with useless junk, draw the viewer in with a good image and make sure the ad is easy to read and concise.

These ideas are getting me going. I appreciate this

I was originally playing around with a diptych idea with 3-4 images with product/event showcased (I'll post it up soon). Now looking at General's design sample, I m wondering if i can pull something like that off.

Let me see if i can show you guys what i had in my mind in the next few minutes - and tell me if its too much.

Edit:

Sorry didn't answer you questions General.

They asked me to work with a CMYK file and the newsletter will be in Color. Don't know how much i want to mess with that though.

that's the basic idea!

i'd make the contact info a little smaller and instead of "photography by dev" i'd use a call to action, something relevant to the newsletter's readership. mainly looking for a verb to generate a phone call or email inquiry. maybe even make the "photography by" a 10-pt caption/credit just below the pic?

Here was my original idea, Though at a quarter page, I m now leaning more towards General's. Just need to find a pic that makes sense to do it with

What do you guys say?

Edit made minor changes

Skip,

I m looking through some marketing videos for call to action ideas.

In this case, I m not sure which approach might work best.

Something in sentence form?

"Want picture for your Business? Give me a call"

Maybe set up a promotion for that organization?

"Call me about discount for members"

or maybe something super concise? Like an RF code? (at the risk of alienating some folks or adding in a combo of two at the risk of cluttering?

I like the jumping picture. It grabs attention.

I do too, in fact i m definitely going to use Generals' idea for some ads.

I m looking through my catalog to see if i can find anything similar that's more relevant to the group i m working with for this ad(a chamber of commerce).

Also hunting for a call to action now.

Again, really appreciate the help and work you guys are putting into this for me.

Maybe you can quickly get a picture of some guy in a business suit and tie jumping in the air and clicking his heels ... that or edit the C of C logo onto the kid's shirt ... ;-)

Haha, i almost changed into a suit thinking of that.... I m not sure i have another image that would work as well for a background at that one... I'll make both and decide at the end. Until then, still need a "call to action". Any ideas?

"Picture yourself THIS happy!" (to go with a jumping photo)
03/14/2013 04:12:47 PM · #16
my apologies if i missed something, but who's the audience? what type of organization is the newsletter for?

at that size, you want a single picture. anything more gets lost.

strong graphic images like the jumper command attention.

what do you want people to do? call you? why? what are you going to do for them? what would you like them to want you to do?

"Get clickin! Call today to find out about member specials!"

too many words?

"Get clickin! Call now for member specials!"

or

"Get clickin! Call now about member specials!"

maybe even forget running an email address and just go with phone and web address.

qr codes are great, if you have enough room.

Skip, its the " Sikh American Chambers of Commerce". Most members are South-East Asian American business owners in the Tri-state area (NJ,NY,PA).

I've officially discarded my original idea, working off General's now.

Ok,

Here's where I am at.

Too much? Too little?

edit: i'll make some final changes to align tops and bottoms later - but want to know if this looks good overall.

Perfect!

Looking good! In the thumbnail the background at the top is a little dark, making the type harder to read, but it looks OK in the full-size version.
