The only portraits that looks good without any editing are children. ;D |

I totally suck at portraits (not much better at other types of photography too). I have no proper lighting (not even on-board flash) and I now only have a 50mm prime lens. This is a challenge that could teach me a lot. I say lets do it.
Just one question. Should this be portraits of people only or could animals count too?

No description. :)
Portraits are portraits, human, duck or feeling.
Take a portrait of pain for all that I care - just make sure that I think "portrait" when I see it.
Of course, the best images are almost certainly going to be human portraits IMO.

Well, that'd work pretty good if I was the only voter.
Not sure why you think it's appropriate to attack me on this, but it's not like I give a damn bro - it's pretty much my prerogative to define this however I'd like, given it's my suggestion. Don't you think? ;)
Or was that just a poorly worded objection to the inclusion of non-human portraits? After all, you really are extremely good at human portraits, so I might expect that you'd prefer those instead.

Cory I think there was an inferred smiley face at the end of that. |

You very well may be right - hence the inclusion of a ;) in my post.
Never can tell though - some people are so funny about minimal editing and portraits.
In any case, I tend to meet fire with fire, I just try not to actually burn anything until I'm sure of what I'm burning, and why. ;D |

ROFL - Well, I'll remember to try not to break out the torches with you so quickly in the future. Sorry about singeing your mustache. ;)
Seriously though - I suppose a disclaimer might be appropriate for you. You'll notice I have one on my profile, and if you had read it, you might have known that I was intending that in a reasonably good-natured fashion, even if my torch was lit. ;)

Another example, from my own portfolio.
This was basic editing - which equates to "Could have happened in camera with the right settings".
Now, I do think this would have been much harder in minimal, but I think I could do it. (this time without the facial burns I hope)

Did you have an extra dose of negativity this morning with breakfast Mike?
It's a bummer you think that nothing of value can be created without massive post-production editing.
ETA: I really am surprised that you didn't think even ONE of those photos I posted were of sufficient quality to be impressive to you.
Oh I see the problem. You just don't like much of anything! ;)
