So me, the significant other and if his school agrees my 5yr old ejo shall be attending a wedding in Rochester ny, between the 5th and 19th June, and then the other daughter gets married in October at Belhurst (thanks equist) castle so we'll be back for two more weeks sans the kinder :)

So what shall we see, do places to go be in rochester till the wedding on the 9th etc flying into Toronto and planning on 4 days in New York as well and maybe 2-3 days in Toronto before we fly back on the June stint.

Been a few years since I was on the east coast

Awesome! It just so happens that I will also be in NY the weekend of 6/9! If all works out, we might actually meet! I don't know the first thing about Rochester, but you simply can do no wrong in NY. Just stick your camera out the window and press the shutter button.

Rochester isn't that far from Niagra Falls....also the finger lakes are pretty close...both cool places.

Letchworth State Park is about an hour south of Rochester - it's known as the Grand Canyon on the east - Genesee River runs thru it. Spectacular place especially at the bottom end of the park.

I'm not far from Rochester, and I'd echo the recommendations of Letchworth and the Finger Lakes, especially for the October trip (assuming you meant Belhurst Castle). The leaves will be turning and the Finger Lakes wineries will be in high season. June is a great time as well. If you have the time, come see the waterfalls in Ithaca and Watkins Glen. There are some great parks with nice hikes in the area.

The Clan of Too will be camping those days in Allegeny State Park. Just a couple of hours from Rochester. I will keep an eye on this thread to see where people may land.

Not heading to the coast for any of those 14 days? And Tangy, you're coming all the way out here and not up to the Cape? :-(

We have a family commitment, then might be heading SOUTH to DC for a couple of days, so it would be impossible, Bear :-( However, if things change, you'll be the first to know. Will you be around that weekend/week?

Giles, we'll just have to try a gtg in the Old World....

I live in Rochester, perhaps we can arrange a GTG and I can get you to a few spots around town.

Giles, I live in Ottawa but have been to Toronto many many times. A nice hotel is the Weston Harbour Front but it is on the price side of things. The Delta Chelsea is also good and a little more affordable. As for things to do The St. Lawrence Market has been voted the best market in the world, The Distillery Historic District is also a great place to see. I bet your son would love The Toronto Zoo and the pandas are arriving this spring!

During those dates we'll be visiting Montreal, Kingston, Toronto, Buffalo so we should be in the general area. I'll keep an eye on this thread. We are hoping to go Bear hunting the week before.

Once I figure out how close Rochester is to Ogdensburg, I can come Stateside for a gtg...or if you're coming to Canada too (have to see other thread) can catch up with you en route :-)

Really? You'd drive me all the way to Rochester for a gtg?! WOOHOOOOOO!!!! That would be killer, Uncle Raymee! Of course hopefully you're taking pics too and not just chauffeuring me around :-) and as the OTHER Canon-toting redhead in my life doesn't have a passport, well...think of all the no-good we could get up to ;-)

RE Toronto: Lunch or a beer in the CN Tower is highly recommended - spent several hours on my birthday there getting plastered. Great glass floor up there too if you brave enough to walk across it.

And if you want to stay in a really cool hotel you can't get cooler than the Drake in Toronto

A 4-year-old on a plane for 8 hours. Sounds like fun.
