I left DPC in 2008 after becoming tired of all the arguing in the Rant section. I forgot we are a community of people who "like/love" capturing a cut of life. I said some hateful things and heard a few hateful things while I was hear. We are people of many different cultures and beliefs, but we are one race. The Human race. Differences aside we are opinionated and some times do not share the same opinions. Sometimes we need to agree to disagree. Well I just entered my first contest since 2008 and hoping to score big. Many good photos I will have to compete against I am sure of that. I just wanted to say let each and everyone support the efforts for which we are truly here for. Photography. Hope you Score High, but I hope I win. See you in the competition.

Well. I think you answered it pretty well actually - "we are opinionated, and somteimes do not share the same opinions. Sometimes we need to disagree"

I love it that /rant exists, as it allows us to sequester ourselves into in-depth argumentative analysis of certain hot-button issues.

Frankly, I rarely see anyone there say anything terribly hateful, sure it gets heated, but mostly there's a great deal of respect between the folks that participate in the majority of the /rant threads..

In any case, welcome back, hope your images do great, and hope you might take a look at /rant with a different eye to it's value.

Cheers,
CB

And bear in mind that if what goes on in rant BOTHERS someone, all they have to do is hide that forum and it will cease to impact their DPC experience.

The way folks deal with the existence of "Rant" in here sometimes reminds me of the time I saw a man beating his head against a brick wall hard and repeatedly, so hard his forehead was bleeding. I asked him why he was doing this, and he looked at me with a beatific smile and said "It feels SO good when I stop!"

Because " I will force my myopic views of any given subject over yours so shut up and listen." is too long a title for a forum selection..:)

You know, it's funny, that's sorta always how I picture you when we're discussing something in /rant. ;)

ETA: That's fricken hilarious... I'm just dying of laughter at that .gif

That's why the forum is called rant -- so you know ahead of time that it's above and beyond, and that you can just ignore it from the outset. It actually was a brilliant move on Landgon's part. Most of the time I ignore the rant section, unless I'm in the mood for a good fight or a good laugh. :)

This maybe the only rant that everyone has agreed upon so far. LOL

Perhaps someone (everyone?) needs a refresher course on the Forum Rules, or to review the Terms of service agreement ...???

F***...

Apparently, according to the SC, the /rant forum, and the PM system are still subject to the TOS and site rules.

*shrug*

I always thought it was exempt from the rules as well, until I told someone what I really thought about them, and they turned me into the SC for it. The SC were nice enough about it, and I gladly admitted to having said what I said, but it was made clear that the /rant and PM system aren't actually exempt from the rules, although they do have a little bit more head-room than the rest of the site.

Sooo... Surprise! ;)

ETA: Posted 7 seconds after the good General... Edited the post to remove gratuitous profanity.

maybe im wrong here, but i just read the TOS and i cant find where is says we cant curse.

in fact i did a search for curse, profanity, foul and language and the only one that came up was language in the above posted section and that only refers to racial or ethnic slurs.

Section (ix) would deal with cursing, on a general scale.

In this instance, your use of "foul language" was explicitly gratuitous ...

If "talking dirty" for no particular reason is your idea of fun, I suggest you seek a career in stand-up comedy rather than photography ...

It's human nature to argue and oppose your fellow man. It's a dog eat dog world out there and everyone's hungry!
