Mr wackybill, Thank you for your help. I did try it as you say and it did work to fix the problem. I did not even know what the other crop tool is for until you help me. It is why I am here is to learn to be better. and today I have learn. (but it was still not a border problem it was a crop). I love you all for helping me and I will do better next week. But I am sad that others will still have this trouble.

Mr Lionelm, thank you for your idea to post my picture and vote, but I know how it was doing, and I had many very nice comments from everyone. I thank you all for your help.

Glad I could help! I also am here to learn. :-) I think that's why we are all here or what would be the point?

Glad you got it straightened out. Sorry you had to learn this way!

Here is my picture that was DQ'd for a bad borders. I post this only so others can learn from what I did wrong. I see there are many other photos that have this same problem in most all the challenges. It is not my wish to DQ them, it is only my wish to help them learn as I have today. I feel this should be a part of a critique to help others learn to fix this in their work. But I am very sad to know there will be many others who will feel the same sadness as I have had today.

Note that in this image, you have 3 border colors. Outside - dark black. Middle - white. Inside - light grey.

Meika, I sometimes have the same problem. After I crop it I take the picture by the corner and slightly move it out to make it just a tad bigger. Don't pull it out to much, just enough to take the white out of the one side. Give it a try.

Mieka,

I use Paint Shop Pro and haven't had this problem. There are a few things you have to be careful of:

1) Make sure that "Antialias" is unticked in the tools window for the selection tool and that "Feather" is set to "0".
2) Crop and resize your image to the final submission size (allowing for the width of your border - i.e. if you are using a 5px border, make sure that your image is no bigger than 630x630).
3) Set the background colour to the colour you want your border to be
4) Go to "Image", "Add Borders...", make sure that "Symmetric" is ticked, then enter the size of your border in one of the boxes and click OK.
5) If you want a double border, repeat steps 3 and 4.

I think what happened in your case was that "Antialias" was on when you cropped and the background colour was black. Therefore, PSP antialiased the edge of the image to black, effectively half-toning the outermost pixel of the image, creating a third border.
