I think I'm ready to sell all my Olympus stuff and make the switch to Canon. Can't decide on which one I want though...
being POOR does make the decision easier though!!!

I've did some reading but never went as far as trying any of them.

Back in 2009 I made the switch from my Olympus C8080 to a Canon XSi. I was very happy with it except it did not have the swivel screen.

I just 'upgraded' to the Canon T3i this year. I really needed the swivel screen because my back can no longer take the contortions I do to get some of the shots. So far I am happy with it BUT just a Buyer Beware story that I told some friends here.

Make absolutely sure the camera is new out of the box. I purchased my new Canon T3i on January 5 from Best Buy. Opened the box to charge up the battery and read the manuals. The one thing that was missing that the box said it included: camera strap. That should have been one sounding of the warning bells. But I thought, no biggie. Maybe they forgot to package it at the factory. Went back a day later and they gave me one.

Battery charged up I turn it on. It's ready to roll.
That should have been my second warning bell. Every NEW camera I have purchased I have had to set the date and time. This one had it already done.

Long story short I had been shooting photos up until the 18th and they were sharp. Next day, I nothing I did would get the same tack sharp results of the previous days (Fiddled with lighting, fiddled with F-stops, fiddled with the dioptics, made sure the mirror is locked, took the battery out & back in, took the card out, put in new card). The focus point on the subject was very soft.

I packaged up the camera and marched into Best Buy. Showing them yesterday's results and that day's result. Luckily I purchased Best Buy's 2 year warranty. O.K. exchange for another New T3i. I had them open the box in front of me. All items are there (including the camera strap). Put the battery into the new one and turn it on: What do you know - it asks me to set the date and time!

Best Buy told me they don't sell used cameras as new. My gut feeling is that I was sold a floor model that had been used and packaged back up to appear brand spanking new and untouched.

The lesson - if the camera is missing anything from the box and it doesn't ask you to set date & time - it is likely it has been used.

i recommend going over to a store to handle these if possible. You'll know which you like. bring an SD card with you and ask if theyll let you use it(most cameras mentioned use sd)

+2

if you can go with the larger body and pro-style layout its worth it to do so.

The image quality wont see any improvement but its much easier to use, especially if you use it often and need to adjust the settings.

If you can afford the 60D then you should not think too much and just get it.

The top panel, the dual dial, the handling of the 2 digits and 1 digit series is a different class.

If the money is tight remember that used is an option. With the 5,6 and 7 series entering the market the number of 2 digit lightly used bodies on the market has swelled. You can get a 40d for $300 from B&H.

I think that will be the way I go. I'm going to start looking for some good used deals.

Some good places to find used Canon.

Personally, I have never thought about switching. Course I love the Micro four thirds, and the cameras. My EP3 I got set up for street photography, I can walk anywhere and never questioned about it. Little camera, and small lenses have their benefits. Still have my E3 with the 4/3rd lenses, but I'm pulling that out less and less since I got the OMD.

If that's the case I think you should save and get the OMD.

Ok, you didn't ask, but...if I were in your shoes I'd go for the Oly OM-D...

If your going APS-C, why not enjoy SLR quality with reduced weight, and what is supposed to be state of the art IS/VR, also reducing weight of lenses (which are already smaller)!

I seriously considered going that way instead of full frame. But I wanted more resolution (my Sony RX-100 impressed me so with the detail in it's 20MP even though it's a smaller sensor) for landscapes. I was considering the Sony NEX-7 as a smaller camera, but it has APS-C sized lenses!

I still long to reduce carry weight! I do see micro-four-thirds somewhere in my own future.

Just food for thought.

Terry - I'm not really sure if I could afford it either but I took advantage of the pay in 12 months deal at Amazon.

Like you, I was at a point where I wanted to switch systems. But I kept putting it off because I didn't want to give up my lenses. Then the OMD came along and voila... still an Oly user.

Before you switch out, you need to get to a store and touch one of these babies. It's so tiny - but it is sooooo much better than the E-520. The noise level is so much more improved now too. [Neil - if you read this. You commented on this photo: about noise reduction. I didn't use any :) ]

The down side is that there's not a lot of really good lenses yet. There's one that's fantastic for the price but the other good ones are quite expensive.

I hear that "possibly" they are going to make an announcement about another micro camera soon that is supposed to be a step up from the OMD. Well some kind of announcement might happen in March. Maybe the OMD will drop in price then? Probably not but it might be worth thinking about.

Good luck with your decision!

Unless you shot RAW there is a certain noise reduction applied by the camera. You should be able to turn it on and off .

... I think.

Anyway is pretty awesome. An so is the cat :P

I was very close to buy it but I went full frame also cause I had the cash. I think that the 4/3's are not there yet to match the shallow DOF. But for street, landscape I think they are awesome and would not hesitate to recommend it.

The reason I keep on Olympus is well because it works. I have never had a problem with anyone of my cameras since 1998, not a one. Make no mistake their are some increadable 4/3rds and Micro 4/3rds lenses out there.

Okay....you guys talked me into staying with Olympus. I ordered my OM-D-EM5! So exciting!
