It all depends what you like, I couldn't be happier with a Shakespeare challenge, the amount of topics, love, war, deception- and the literal shots possible, along with the well titled shoehorns, would most likely produce a memorable challenge. |

that's right. nothing like a good old-fashioned pencil eraser challenge to get lots of photos of pencil erasers and none of them dreadful shoehorns. We should do an entire series on the pencil: eraser, graphite, sharpened, unsharpened, the sharpeners, the shavings, that would keep us going for months. Just think of how much we could learn about ... um ... photography ... |

Well if you're shooting stock photography, which is 90% of the challenges here, you tend to focus on just the stock aspect since...well... the photography aspect is nothing more than rinse, repeat. |

you can say that about any challenge.
i just don't see the point of these types of challenges, many times the winners just grab a pretty landscape and attach a catchy title that meets the challenge.
my point was if people actually took the challenge seriously and created an image that had the atmosphere or mood or in some way related to the source material I'd be much in favor of them. Not to say people don't, but the prettiest images always win regardless of whether and attempt was made to meet the challenge.
thats all.
say what you want about pencil erasers IV or whatever but at least the are confining in some way.

I've seen where people have said they don't care if a good shot meets the challenge or not, they vote it high.
When I suggested this I actually had a picture in mind, based on a line I actually said while doing a show. I've been involved with about 12 Shakespeare productions. So just wanted to have a subject that I have an interest in. |

Better than taking your best shot of the week and simply finding a matching lyric or quote. Just think of how much of a .... um ...... a challenge that is. Kind of takes away the C in DPC. |

If you think far enough out of the box any subject can be a free study, and isn't thinking out of the box a good thing to practice occasionally?

what the point of having a challenge if people aren't going to shoot for it?
anyway, its just me bitching about some folks lack of effort...and getting rewarded for it. |

there's only one shoehorn on the front page right now.
some people shoot for the challenge. some people shoot wonderful photos and try to make them fit the challenge. altogether they create the melting pot that is dpc.
too many erasers spoil the soup.
don't batter us with boring challenge topics in your attempt to control photographer behavior. |
