I also suggested that they get rid of the announcement for Best of 2011 challenge on the front page, because it embarrassed me to recommend a site that hasn't updated their "news" for a year.

"Site News
Best of 2011 & More - Jan 18th
The Best of 2011 challenge has been scheduled and some new features have been implemented. To read more, click here for the announcement."

When I renewed my membership last week I was going to send a PM to Langdon about updating that "News", but didn't. Maybe if a few of us sent PMs about the "News" it might have more of an impact? I don't think the SC has the power to change that part of the code.

I entered anyway, even if most people will probably say "Is that the best you did last year"? :-D

Sorry, I've seen proof that Langdon has no plans of giving this site any attention for the forseeable future. I wouldn't waste your energy.

You are probably right, but I sent a PM anyway. :-)

If I have an entry that was disqualified last year in a free study because of editing that did not meet the parameters in advanced editing so technically it did not make it into a challenge.......can I resubmit that photo properly edited this year? I wanted to give it another go.....

Wonder where the right place to ask my question would be.......?

I would send a message to an SC member. I really don't know, but I would think because it was entered though DQ'd you would not be able to enter it again.

It's the same editing rules set, so if it was illegal then it's illegal now... but since it's already been submitted to a challenge it would be illegal anyway. Perhaps another shot from the same session?

" I submit that my entry was based on photograph(s) taken with a digital camera on or between Jan. 15th 2013 and Jan. 31st 2013. ... "

Apparently this error is old news to many of you, but it confused me just now when uploading my entry.

Via a Ticket (Help > Contact Us > General Inquiry)

However, I think Kelli is right — that particular image has already been submitted to a challenge and so is ineligible, but another frame from the same session would be fine.

Well I pulled out the raw filed and reedited it within the rules....last year I didn't know what I did wrong was wrong.......so would that be fine? Is does look very different now......it was the same original shot......minus all the rule breaking mistakes I made...... because I was a newbie!

Me either. But I did! I predict a possible 5.4 (if voters are generous) and a maximum of three (3) comments. But I did enter. First one for 2013!

My first one this year too AND my first one since last June's Sherpet challenge so I didn't have much to choose from. Just not motivated anymore it seems, but I did renew my membership to help support the site.

I did send Langdon a PM about at the very least updating the front page and, as predicted, it did no good. :-(

Hmm, oddly enough I sent one in with about the same expectations.
So, let's see who varies the most from the perceived norm, shall we?
Contest. The Winner comes North or South to collect a dinner.

Excellent challenge, Alice! You're on!! :-)

(And I'm actually hoping I win - I want to go North. Or is it the other way 'round?)

SUPER! How about the one who has the greatest variance gets to choose.

Hmm. Off to a great start! I have a 4.75 thus far, which gives me a variance of 0.65.

I wonder if having a best of and free study in voting at the same time was a good idea... thinking it might limit the number of votes they get, especially given there are three others in voting too.

screw the best of... i should have entered a pretty landscape.

Sadly I realized that shooting for DPC takes away some freedom, should I say.

I looked through my last year's pics (a quite active year on DPC) and what I have considered best are already entered in challenges (not that they were very good).

So not much left outside the DPC box.

I've been here long enough to not care about votes and score and others so I can enter whatever pleases me or whatever I can (my fav quote is still from GeneralE - DPC entries should be like homework - you enter whatever you have).

Saying that I realized that still, after reading a challenge description my photographic perception of the world narrows to fit the challenge. I have to shot pics that could be entered. I might like them but do not share them here or FB or wherever, because would not be fair if I enter it.

I have entered this one but looking through the muck accumulated on my HDD I felt a bit sad and disappointed.

Maybe also because recently I had been very busy at work.

Well, good luck everyone and sorry for the rant.

i can relate most of my photography outside of the portrait work i do is shot for DPC or entered in free studies or edited in such a way that it blows away the advanced rule set. so i entered the best image i could find and its getting panned. its a great image. but its at a 4.4 right now, basically because its not a pretty landscape like i was going to enter.

i may not enter the best of any more. its clear what images win and unless you go on a photogenic vacation or live in a photogenic locale, you have no shot.

I agree that there are some incredible landscapes in there. Truly beautiful shots. However, there were shots that blew me away, and they weren't vacation or photogenic locales.

I figure in best of challenges, 97% of us don't stand a chance, anyway. When there's multiple hundreds of shots with which to compete, you're just trying to stand out in some way.

i know, its just bothersome getting a 4.4, that has to be my lowest score ever.

Keep in mind that it's also only a few votes. I find that with free studies I have to wait for the right group of people to vote. :)
