re-cropped to straighten (not sure I'm happy with it yet, but I think it looks a little better.)

Week ll - Outside my mountain home

I was hunting mushrooms and losing the light so I had to use the flash with a G. Fong diffuser - I just got the Canon 5Dll a few days ago and this is really my first test run with it .. so far, I am in love .. high ISO not a problem re. noise issues - didn't have to put any shots through topaz denoise or any noise reduction program .. what a great start to a New Year.

I managed to actually take a few pictures over the last two weeks.

Here's Week 1:

Week 2:

Nothing earth shattering, but I'd appreciate any honest feedback

Week 2

Just a simple shot ... it was all my foggy brain could handle and I didn't want to get any more behind. :( I'll have to do a catch up for week 1 since I had a dratted cold.

Like kasaba I like both portraits a lot and find the 2nd street capture much stronger than the first. Did you have any kind of "message" in mind when you did the first portrait - interesting choice to box the single eye so cleanly so I wondered. The nice thing about the 2nd street capture is that both people in the frame are very strong and interesting.

No, I thought now that I'm finished my 365 project, I need something else to do. It was Sunday night and played around with a bunch of different poses and lighting setups. This was the one I enjoyed the most.

Tonight I'll pull them off my website and include them here, it's probably easiest for people. Just makes a lot to handle as I have flickr, 500px, my website, here, PWOContests; it's a hassle keeping track of everything.

Well my other choice was fashion so I thought I would post this fun shot for week three. I will give the mushrooms a rest for this week. This shot was taken in natural light in a rather dark room .. the only light source was a window so there wasn't a lot of choice in where she stood. I didn't take lights or reflectors with me. I would love tips on using natural lighting and welcome all feedback.

My tip for shooting by window light is to first look to see what's there. Window light creates wonderful shadows--to me, shooting by window light is an exercise in shooting shadows.

Week 1

My debut shot for this sc. I've been dithering about a theme, but this is all I've got for week 1, so we'll see what theme develops (if any).It could be animals, or living things, or shot through windows, because this one was.

Some of you may have read my thread regarding the Bulbophyllum Orchid that I was struggling to photograph. Here is one of the pollinators who "interfered" in the shot, or should that be side-tracked me ;-).
Unfortunately the lense wasn't right and although the flies stayed around a long time (i.e I would have had time to change lenses), I only have extension tubes for macro and those I have to focus manually. The flies were pretty keen on the flower, and the camera was right in their face, but having a hand there always chased them away. So this is the best I could do.

Week three already?

Okay, this green object has no discernible purpose except decoration.
the blue object could be a lower-case "r" or it could be a stylized "G" or it could be a "Gr".
I think the whole thing qualifies as an "Architectural Oddity."
