Imagine sitting in a plexiglass box taking pictures while an eight foot polar bear spends 45 minutes trying to crack it open so she can feed you to her hungry cubs. Photos and video here.

Definitely more sensible then the folk who wander into animal territory without protection though I kind of feel sorry for the bear.

I'm cheering for the Polar Bear in her territory.

I remember a Seinfeld bit where he notes that when the nature show is about the antelope you cheer for him, "Get away from the lion! Use your speed!", but when the show is about the Lion..."Bite him in the ass! Don't let him use his speed!"

I wonder how far away the photographer on the outside was?

Love the comments left at the end. Most were cheering for the bear it seems. I'm kind of in that camp too. Not that I wish the photographer any harm. It just seems like a taunt to place food in plain view but make it inaccessible.

I understand where you're coming from -- but the plight of the polar bears is getting extremely serious. I think that documentaries are important ways of getting information out. He's getting incredible shots (not of being attacked in a dome) and if this helps him get the footage that's necessary, I think it's well worth 45 minutes of irritation for the bears.

Screw the bears. I have to go through that every time I walk passed all the expensive restaurants & steakhouses downtown.

Awww, with godzilla on a leash, you could have your selection of mixed grills in moments!
And with careful maneuvering, probably a white tablecloth too.

yeah... but with ken, it wouldn't stay white long... he does have pretty lousy table manners. Godzilla keeps trying to train him, but it just isn't working.

45 minutes of hard exercise for an animal that weighs in at around a ton, and is having trouble finding enough food? Let's just say that from a biological standpoint it probably wasn't exactly helpful in terms of energy reserves and the chance that the bear will be able to sustain itself and it's cub until the next time it's able to catch prey. Perhaps it's worth it for the species, but it almost certainly was detrimental to this particular bear and it's cub.

I *swear* I read about that show sometime in the past week, and the article said it was going to be shown in the US sometime in the next couple of months. The show sounded amazing, but I don't get cable, so I didn't pay much attention at the time. Of course, I can't find any mention of that show and any American network now that I'm looking for it.
