East of Colorado, it gets pretty flat, so they would be easy to find. In Kansas it's so flat that your dog can run away from home, and you can watch it go for three days...

I've always thought that to be the most interesting saying... You do realize that you can see further when it's not flat right? ;)

A lot of truth in that one Cory ... on a clear night, I can see the moon. :O)

@ Kelli: if the dates work, I'm in!
@ Robert: didn't think you'd be into it....if I can figure out the best way to get lipos thru airport security without hassle then I'd love to bring it.
@ Richard: What a wonderfully generous offer, we will be tickled pink to join you.
@ Monica: Great come & join us, you'll need a tent.
@ Alex & Cory: lol.....in the 70's I was a camp counsellor at a summer camp near Omaha, believe me I know what you mean!

Old ghost/gold mining towns is a great idea, I'll look for some of those thanks.

We would also like to find some native indian heritage culture centres if anyone knows where in that area?

I'm jealous !!! She's got some flying skills too. Important when you're hanging a video camera from a hexacopter. :-)
Well done!

They have some wonderful hiking trails, jeep adventures and ATV routes near Moab. Just expect it to be very HOT in late June. The area around Arches is wonderful - especially in the evening with a full moon. The drive from Denver to Moab is spectacular. Mesa Verde may be a bit off your track, but would be worth the time if you are interested in Anasazi culture. You might also want to consider a side trip to Canyon de Chelly in your Monument Valley to Grand Canyon trek. It is spectacular, and not too far off your path. You could spend a night in Chinle. And there is always Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, which is an amazingly spiritual place. Just be sure to take lots of water with you wherever you travel in the southwest. You will be there when it is very hot and dry. You are going to have a fantastic time!!

Sounds like a fine trip. Let us know when you'll be by the Cape.

Let me know when you intend to get to Kingston... It is only a 90 mile trek for me... I could meet you there for lunch or something.

@ Patsy: I had to google 'Anasazi' but that's exactly the sort of thing we love doing thanks.
@ Robert: Will contact you as we get closer to see how you are placed.
@ Tracey: Got your PM thanks.

I'm surprised that during my research I have not seen much mention of American Indian culture activities. Are we travelling the wrong areas or do I have to dig deeper?

@ Ray: For sure, in fact Enlightened is also in the area and we hope to catch up.

Massachusetts, including the cape, has a fairly rich Native American history, and there are several events during the year. Robert or I will look into what might be going on late May/early June. There is a museum in Mashpee (on the cape) but I haven't visited it.

It will be a shame to be in New England and miss the coast of Maine or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. If you can choose only one stop in New England then Cape Cod is a good choice but no one should limit themselves to only one New England stop.

I'd trade the whole Albany-Canada-Rochester loop for a visit to Acadia National Park alone :-)

Plimoth Plantation, A living history organization like Colonial Williamsburg, just across the canal from the Cape, is worth a day trip for early American history. They have one whole section on Wamanoag Indian Life that will appeal to you.

Too bad you're not coming down to Louisiana....If you like indians there is poverty point. The largest and most complex Late Archaic earthwork occupation and ceremonial site found in North America. It is a pretty cool site

Been there and done that...and Robert is right on the money. That is one very impressive site to behold. I for one was quite impressed with the longhouses, the native artifacts and the story tellers.

I was even more impressed by the fact that someone from the native community remembered me from the days when I worked on reservations in Canada.

Trust me, you will enjoy it.

Mike, I live close to parts of the western part of your journey. I have a few recommendations for you.
When visiting Moab,Zion, and Monument valley. plan your visit for early morning, first it's hot and dry, and second it's very heavy with tourists.and most of the really good stuff takes a bit of a hike.
Question. your plans indicate you have Moab marked for a day. Is your interest Arches NP, or Canyonlands NP ? You won't have time for both, maybe 1 and Dead Horse point.
I live around this area, and was building a bridge in Moab for a year. If there is anything specific you wish to know about Moab, Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon ( north side) or Vegas, just ask
