This time an elementary school about 7 miles from my house. News reports are saying over a dozen people, including children, were shot and killed. A very sad day. :-(

Wow... didn't realize how close that was to you. I've been watching it on CNN. How ridiculous. They're saying 10 children & 2 adults, but of course that info could be wrong.

You can kill the "Oh God" thread -- I was watching CNN, and they went from 3 people dead to 27 (CBS is reporting 27 -- CNN told about the CBS report so I just switched to CBS)!

Terrible - now hearing 'at least 27 dead'
Let's hope that is incorrect.

The Newtown border is a block from where I'm sitting. This is close enough that it will likely involve people we know. There are police in all the schools, and Facebook is lighting up with parents freaking out.

Oh Shannon -- I was going to say I can't even imagine it, but unfortunately, I can. I hope all your friends and their loved ones are safe.

oh wow - oh I just cannot even imagine since I still have one in elementary school. My heart breaks for those families. Prayers for you all in Connecticut.

This is so heart-breaking. This is terrible news and I cannot even imagine what you and people around you are going through!

Its close to Watertown, where our schools have been locked down, and a very Close friend of mine is a Newtown Cop.

(I believe that the "guns don't kill people/ only criminals will have guns people" should use their best judgment with this thread)

unreal. it doesn't matter how many hurdles/safeguards you put up, if a sicko wants to go off, there's not much that can stop them. my heart breaks for all involved and affected by this.

I do not have the words for what I am feeling as I watch the news and think of this unthinkable horror. Prayers for everyone affected in any way.

Geez!!! I cannot believe how cruel and evil society has become. Is there not a safe haven anymore for our children? Such a sad situation when our world has become plagued with so much violence that our children can't go in peace to learn, be with friends, and grow. A sad day it is indeed. To those children lost and those families who have lost your children...I just want to say "I truly am sorry that we couldn't make this world a place of peace and love for you." My prayers to you all.

Mass Shooting Incidents In The Last Two Decades

Tragic. This most recent incident will go on the list. The US has more than its share of these awful community crises, they aren't exclusive to America.

The Columbine shooting in Colorado in 1999. It seems like just yesterday.

Impossible to believe that 5 to 10 year-olds were targeted in this latest tragedy.
My heart goes out to their parents and the community.
12/14/2012 01:26:54 PM · #20
For perspective, this is double the death toll of Columbine.

Those poor poor babies, their poor parents, I have tears streaming down my face.

One entire classroom is unaccounted for.
