Already there have been some comments left on my picture that have upset the model... who was very brave in agreeing to show the world her naked figure which, like all of us, she sometimes has issues with.
Seeing as most of us are amateur photographers, we don't have at our disposal professional models whose egos are more robust than wifes/girlfriends/whatever.
Can I ask everyone to criticise the photographer harshly if they want, but please excercise some respect when refering to the model, who is not a piece of meat in most of these photos, but actually someone known personally to the photographer, if not the photographer themselves... and it has taken a lot of courage to get to this stage. Remember that they will actually read the comments as well... please write comments as if you are refering directly to your loved one. Do the men here really talk to their women like some of the comments I've received?
I really don't want any more comments sounding like teenage locker room talk, and I am starting to heavily regret entering this challenge. I'm very proud of my photo, and if I feel I have to pull it, it will be your loss!

I agree with you Bob!!

I totally agree Bob,
Come on guys,To even attempt an entry in this challenge takes some confidence, let's not undermine that for the photographer or the model.

Incidentally, I didn't have the bottle to enter, but I will be voting.

Very well said, and I agree 100%.

Bob
How sad that people can't think beyond their need to make witty, juvenile comments. I hope your model will understand that the vast majority of people who view your entry (whichever one it is) are good, mature people who don't share the opinions of the few.

And I might add that comments that are truly abusive should be reported to the SC and/or admins for action.

Takes a lot of courage to have they’re pictures posted on the internet, women or men models for this challenge.

I can't believe people don't have common sense and enough respect to know they shouldn't give comments like that in the first place! A great post, and I am sorry you recieved such comments. The people who wrote them should be ashamed. There is nothing wrong with voting on the image as a whole and not liking it, but to attack the model directly is just wrong. *I wonder how they would feel in the situation were reversed.

Kavey, you've hit the nail on the head!
Thanks for the support...

Total agreement here, Bobster. Some folks lash out that way. I suggest you follow up with PM's to the offenders, as well. Not too angrily, though. You don't want to start Mortal PM Combat.

I should add that the comments weren't directly offensive or abusive, but were, like Kavey put, juvenile silly comments with no tact.

I agree, Bob.

This is a site with mostly amatuer photographers, we have limited resources and a lack of photographically stunning models. So, let's conduct ourselves in a proper manner.

Perhaps it is time to rethink our goals here and start to praise the photographers with the lesser digital cameras for their attempts to match those with the latest high tech equipment.

I didn't enter this challenge due to the shortage of models and a blank refusal to include any of my grandchildren in the typical family shots...in the bath, paddling pool etc. I trust everyone here, but don't know the extent to which other, less desireable ppl, have access to the site. Therefore I refuse to include nude shots, or seminude shots of them in any challenge.

I agree Bob.

It's terrible that some people simply don't 'get it'.

I really don't understand people who behave like such asshats. Look at it this way -- their self-confidence issues are obviously far more severe than your model's. :(

I agree 100%!

But, one thing I am having a hard time doing during this challenge is making good comments about the photography skills evident in the photo and keeping my "oh my gawd, she's so sexy" comments to a minimum :)

So if I left anyone a comment like that, please take it as a compliment and not some Bevis & Butthead guy sitting in front of his PC saying "heh heh heh, boobies, heh heh heh" :)

I agree 110%, Bob... it's such a sad state of affairs when voters resort to leaving such inappropriate remarks. That's exactly why no one sees me entering my less-than-perfect figure anywhere in this challenge, for fear of negative and venomous comments that have nothing to do with photographic technique. What a shame. I applaud your speaking out about it.

Bob that is sad when people can't get past there own stupidity with comments they leave behind. I couldn't afford a model either, and of course I thought about different things I could do...when a friend of mine offered to pose for me. She doesn't have a perfect body either and I did my best at camoflaging her flaws. So far I must have done well cause no one has commented on her body shape of course I seem to be getting comments about the pose itself.

I do agree though...this challenge isn't called perfect body...its called NUDE so why can't they keep the bs to themselves and only comment on the photographic merit and not the models in this challenge. Afterall if they are making rude comments I'd like to see them bare all!

Awe Laurie, and there I was sure I had you spotted :)

um...not to be a poopy (because I totally agree with you Bob), but a nude photograph is still a work of art, right?

I have not commented, but I have questioned the use of some of the models in this challenge. I'm only talking about appropriateness of models, not their lack of 'perfect 10' figure.

Some of the sensually posed models have a very unsexy expression on their face and some just look like they feel out of place in the picture.

I don't think that a brave model is enough reason to submit a nude photograph anymore that I think the presence of a sunset is a good enough reason to take a picture of it and call it a work of art.

That being said, immature comments are totally unnecessary and they should be made sensitively with the photographer and model in mind.

I don't mean this in any insulting way, and I myself hardly have a good body, but if people are voting on the photo in the same way I do, then they are voting on whether or not it appeals to them as a whole. If the model doesn't appeal to them, sure, they can give points for good technical details etc, but overall, they're not going to like the photo as much as one with someone with a more attractive figure. It's not discrimination or anything nasty at all, it's just human nature. The model is part of the photo, and should be marked as part of it. They should not be ignored in the point distribution just because some people have "better" models than others.
