Have an "audition" of sorts for an ongoing food photography gig. Competing against 4 other seasoned pros. I thought about "eliminating" my competitors, but that would have looked obvious, so now I have to pretend I have skills. ;-)

Good luck!!...you could always poison them with Visine and get pictures of it as well and win both ways.

The very best of luck to you my friend. I have faith ...you will win that ... trust me.

With your talent and imagination, they should be very afraid...

Good luck Ken! If at any point you feel the competitors getting an edge, you could always call on "TM the fixer".

Are you not making enough money being the DPC therapist?

Good Luck but you don't need it!

Remember, photograph it first, THEN eat it.

Thanks everyone! Well I was supposed to be 1 of 2 people to shoot today, but I got there early and the woman ("had photos published in Rolling Stone") who was supposed to be there after me, canceled via email at the last minute, so I used that opportunity to sell myself. The guy has a food blog and is writing 4 cookbooks and he needs someone to shoot twice a week consistently for at least a year. Pay is not great ($400/mo which is $50 per shoot), but it is consistent and it would get me out of the house every week, so I could make it worthwhile. And if I get the process down (shooting, editing, delivery), it could go very smoothly. If nothing else, I will at least have some food in my portfolio - which he noticed I was lacking ("coming soon") and I was only one of the finalists because he liked my sense of humor (who knew that would come in handy??).

So during the course of the food shoot, he says he has an (unrelated) idea for a portrait of him and his brother as a gift for his dad that he wanted me to shoot next weekend regardless of what happens with the food gig. Said he'll pay whatever I charge for it. I said yes to that - it will make it harder for him not to give me the food gig. ;-)

Something different. Thanks again for all your encouragement.

Congrats and you didn't even have to Godzilla him.

Way cool! You'll beat 'em fair and square!

I can't wait to hear about it all, Ken!

Awesome!!!

(ummmm..... hey guys.... should we 'fess up and tell him what we did to help him out, yet? Or should we just let him find out on his own?)

I say we let him keep guessing...
11/24/2012 10:43:33 PM · #20
Nah, he can go get therapy thinking he got it on his own!

Note to self: add "humor" to business plan.

Wow, that's awesome Ken!
If you do end up with the food gig, I wonder if he'll mind if you enter some the shots on DPC?

Awesome news Ken! Congrats!!!! Now you will get tons of experience in food photography, some consistent cash flow and food recipes to boot!

Nice buddy! Any exposure is good, make him an edit of him and his brother with Godzilla as an added bonus.
