I know I have been a bit absent this year from challenges, but last January I set out a goal of getting accepted and then to get 1000 images on shutterstock by the end of this year. I have been submitting at the grueling pace of 25 images per week. I just got the last batch accepted and I am just over 1000! Yay! I have had really good success on stock and am seeing some really significant returns. I have to thank all of you here for your help over the last few years, I know I wouldn't be having the success I am without the help I have received from many of you when I was just starting out.

Here are my top five images in sales, I have others that are more popular but these have been on longer and have racked up more sales:

I do also submit most of my more creative stuff and it does sell just not as much as stuff like the above. If you want to veiw my full portfolio here is the link:

Thanks again DPchallenge, without everyone here not only would I not be good enough to do stock I wouldn't even know what stock was.

Congrats on achieving your goal!

And don't forget us when you become rich and famous.

Congratulations, Jenn. You have worked very hard to get to this point - 1000 images accepted in a year?? I cannot even imagine. Must be hard to keep coming up with creative ideas, too. I wish you well on your 2013 goal.

Wonderful news that you had achieved your goal ahead of time.
And nice to hear you are selling well.
All the best for future years.

Just had a look over there its very interesting.
I have often seen mention of them on bookcovers etc.
Purely out of noseyness how much could you guess to make in 12 months from your images there?
I realise you may not want to say and that's ok of course.
thanks.

Congratulations on meeting your goal! Stock isn't as easy as it looks. Your top 5 are great images! I absolutely love the suitcase you used in #1. You have a great knack for just the right combination(s) in your images. Again, congratulations!

Thats great but what's the hourly rate for creating, shooting and preparing the images? Serious question... I have thought about it a few times but look at the work involved and just cannot justify the hourly rate. What do you do to make that an acceptable trade off?

Superb portfolio Jenn.
Congratulations in achieving your goal, and even more since then.
I'm glad that wormtown found this post.

Jenn's a full-time mother and homemaker, so she's working off an entirely different set of economic principles than you or I would be.

The hourly rate is pennies when you are starting out. BUT, if you have a good eye for commercial value after awhile you are only spending 10-20 hours a week and earning a nice chunk. Make a living at it? Not likely, but it is a nice additional source of income. Don't expect to get rich but if you can work at it around your schedule and make more cash than you would at a part time job that takes you out of the house, it may be worth looking into.

You're a machine, Jenn!!!! Congrats on achieving your goal. Stock has to be one of the hardest things to do well. For ME, anyway :-)
