after looking through the challenge entries, it looks like there's a few things distracting about this challenge.

one of which, people seem to have different perceptions on what a "distracting" photo should be. that being both the photographer and the viewer.

It's amazing just by commenting on the photo's what I have seen, compared to the first time around, I've picked up so much more.

Thankyou~

Clearly not on my one lol

Really weird challenge... Not at all what I expected.

Will have to vote later on in the week, so I can figure it out more. :)

Think many photographers found interesting ways to interprete the distractions literally and very figuratively... I like the people´s variety in what they associate with distraction and how easily some feel distracted. Don´t fuss too much about the scores...it´s fun!

Well the last low vote I got came with a comment asking where the distracting elements are, and saying DNMC... Obviously from a voter that has trouble reading, as the distracting elements are in the title, and clearly visible in the image. Possibly the titles, or viewing an image longer than a second are a distracting element to some :)

Rock'n a 4.9

Erm... noob question... what does DNMC mean? Is it Does Not Meet Challenge?

yup

Stats: You have rated 0 of 79 images (0%) in this challenge. I can't vote, my brain can't handle it; i want to give everyone a 1

Ah thanks.

I personally thought that very few of the images fit the brief... but maybe my interpretation of the brief is weird!

That's why I have a tendency to wait for a couple of days to vote. I start by looking for things that meet my definition of the challenge. But then I look again, trying to figure out what the photographer was going after. Just because it's not immediately obvious, doesn't mean that it's not worth looking further. I've learned some wonderful things this way. :)

Obviously everyone's definition of distracting will be different, and that's the subjective portion of the challenge. But when people can't even count to two, I would have to blanket those with 1s.

I imagine those photographers will try telling me the perfectly balanced sky, or the building which fits perfectly with the scene was the other distracting element. I don't know. As such, I'm going to have to skip this one.

I'm also finding it hard to find 2 distractions in some of the photos.

It says TWO OR MORE

Details: Include at least two distracting elements in your photograph.

Two distracting objects with sometimes only three objects in a picture...difficult!
10/24/2012 08:19:01 AM · #43
*sigh*

From the votes and some of the comments here is seems that people equate Elements to Literal Objects in the Photographs, where physical items in the photographs can and are distracting when unwanted or badly placed... Blur, OOF, Noise, blown highlights, bad crop, clutter, nasty bokeh, vignette, over-hdr, exposure, etc... are distracting ELEMENTS as well. I figure for a bunch of photographers that vote technically on other people's photos this is not hard to grasp. If you attach that filter to your brain, and go back through the entries you will see that many of the entries do indeed meet the challenge criteria :)

You´re right!
That´s also an interpretation. As I´m on DPC to learn how to "produce" technically good photos I haven´t had the technically distracting element even in mind...well I have to go through my votes again

I'm in the pack of those who don't see that many distractions. Maybe a tack sharp stock photo is what some people are looking for, but I like blurred things and an uneven composition, and that doesn't not define something distracting to me. Having a hard time voting. :) Oh, and my score is mid 5's, as usual. LOL I did receive three great comments though!

Cool Judy, you have a typo.....lol

I think for this challenge everyone who dishes out 4 and under should explain why...............................................yeah like that's going to happen~~~!!!

I have tried to explain my feelings on distractions or those that I find as enhancements and not detrimental to the image. Hope I don't piss people off. LOL I predict a super low scoring challenge.

I think this statement identifies the problem I am having with voting and determining what suits the topic. What is the purpose of the distractions in regards to this challenge? There were a few images where some minor things were left in that would have normally been cloned out, such as cars in the distant background. Then a handful of images where the obvious distraction actually added something to the scene. So does that mean it is not a distraction at all, but a secondary subject? There were a few entries where I didn't think there was anything at all distracting in the scene.

Or maybe the point is NOT to make the distractions work with the image, but rather, to illustrate the kinds of things we normally want to avoid in our photos.

Floating in the 5.7 range at last look. About where anticipated.

Thanks captain obvious.
Some photos don't even meet the two requirement. Read my original comment and you'll see that's what I'm referring to.
