2 cameras.

Keep the 60. Buy a 5.

18MP vs 13.2MP (21.1/1.6)... you don't really loose much using a 5DII and just cropping in when required.

Not quite, it has a 1.6 linear crop factor, and MP are based off area. There is 2.56x more sensor area on a FF vs APS-C which can make a huge difference.

18MP vs 8.2MP (21.1/2.56)

My mistake. Thanks.

This old thread may be of interest, 50D vs 5D

And this older FM article as well. 5D vs 50D which one to buy?

I think these are really relevant to you if you want to consider the 5D classic, since it's damned hard to find a good 60D vs 5Dc comparison, and the 50D and 60D aren't too dissimilar... Spend the money you save on a 135 f/2.0L..

i'm really leaning toward the 5d2, I'm pretty sure I'll regret settling for a 5dc simply becuase its cheaper and I'd rather spend the money and get what i want now.

it seems the 6D is going to be underwhelming while costing more than the 5d2.

so now its just a matter of finding one. I found someone who actually wanted to trade a 60D and a 10-22for a 5d2, but i missed that opportunity by a few hours.

the used prices are still higher than a refurb cost for some reason.

Mike,
I think you'll be smiling ear to ear after getting the 5Dii... just curious though, my impression was that used bodies were less than refurbs. Current price for a Canon refurb is $1759. Here is one for sale on fredmiranda.com for $1650 with only 1,000 actuations. You can find 'em cheaper but not too much.

You can get refurbs from CLP for $1583 + tax with a 90day warranty, I think even at the original refurb cost its still a better deal to get the 90 day warranty.

Ah. So all you need, then is a body to trade in to get the price? I would agree that the 90-day warranty is definitely worth something, making it a no-brainer if you have something to trade.

Definitely something I will keep in mind... I think it will be a while before I upgrade, but when I do I will seriously consider a Canon refurb.

the 5d2 is 10% through CLP, most others, such as a 60D for instance are 20%, plus if you buy a lens when you buy the camera its 20% off the lens too. the catch is the stock, especially lenses is hit or miss.

This is pretty much the path I went down.

I ended up with a nice tax return so went for the Mk III over the II. I do a lot of low light stuff like engagement parties so the noise performance of the III was worth it.

NB: I kept my 60d for the crop factor and travel. I'll always have insurance but when I'd rather lose a $1000 body than a $4000 body if (god forbid) it ever happened.

Canon Loyalty Program. Essentially, you trade in pretty much any old broken point & shoot, and you get a darn good deal on a refurbed SLR.

im sure i will.

hopefully my CF card got delivered today too...
09/26/2012 05:10:02 PM · #75
Just picked it up. Both the lens and the camera look brand new! not a mark on them. checked the shutter and the EOS utility says 3071 on the shutter. not bad.

Now if amazon would have just deliver the CF card today like i paid for, that be great so i could test it out...
