First, you have to incentivise him to actually engage with us in that kind of discussion!

Of course, there's always the option of a management buy-out...

Chemist? How about a mechanic......that's the ideal pursued by tuners since the internal combustion engine was invented.

Geologist. For some reason we had to be everything. Mechanic because of shit equipment, chemist for obvious reasons, biologist for obvious reasons, mechanical engineer for various reasons, rock climber, outdoor survival, etc. Oh, and you sometimes needed to know something about geology, although admittedly it was rather rare. ;) Yeah, there's a reason I went back to working on computers.. ;)

If you would've stuck with geology, you probably would have evolved to the stage I'm at: filling out government forms. Government leaches are always looking for ways to justify their paychecks. Your exploration geologists want to take a piss while in the field, fill out form 10-40-PISS, but not before running an archaeological review and environmental impact assessment. Don't forget the First Nations, they'll want some money for that because the water in the area is probably sacred. That's a $100,000 piss, so enjoy it!

I hafta go number two...

Bring a zip-lock baggie and pack it out. :-P

I put it right back in your lunch cooler...next to your "apple juice"

I came to this conclusion as well and it is why I did not re-up my membership.

Sadly I thought about not renewing mine the last time because of that very reason.

Langdon is my Facebook Friend, so I've got his back. Don't make me open a can of whoopass up in here.

There really is a problem with DPC these days.

New members no longer get fruit baskets!!

I'm up next month I think. And I'm not renewing unless things get drastically better!

Has anyone thought about bringing this up, or anything up, lately, at the "get satisfaction" site-
or has that been abandoned, like a scratched Vivitar lens?

Oh... I just refused to use it. I don't need yet another account.

I just wondered, I mean, we are calling him out. Word has to be getting out to him by now.

Perhaps not... Even the SC isn't in regular communication with him from what was said.

Langdon needs finding. Seriously AWOL here.

I doubt I will enter again because I only like to take pictures of my kids and of nature and I hate editing photos. I simply don't have the time to devote to becoming a good enough photographer and editor in order to compete here with you all!

We've managed SC membership/culling via natural attrition. I like and respect everyone on SC. I think they do a great job and I'm still with them because I like them so much and I like DPC very much (even if I don't enter challenges I do learn a lot from everyone here).

I'm surprised you answered so candidly here - refreshing.

However, you can still like the members of the SC and learn as a bog standard member and at the same time relinquish your SC post to someone who would possibly be more `photographically` orientated - by your admission you don't like editing and believe your skills are not upto scratch, but ultimately you have a say in what processing is allowed and what isn't allowed but don't ever have to abide by them yourself - thus not truly understanding the end users frustrations and limitations with new up-to-date editing technologies and processes. A lot of photographers on here do keep abreast of current trends and I feel, and daresay others feel, they would be better placed on the Site Council than those who don't really seem to enjoy photography and entering challenges..

For my part, I have given up on challenges due to the repetitive nature of some of them and the fact they don't inspire me - photographically I have been trying different things and enjoying myself immensely. If the site picks up, changes and becomes more responsive then I will start entering again. But like you, I like a number of the people here and still learn stuff along the way.

However, I think its brave of you to come out and let us know about Langdons vanishing act - its something most of us have suspected for a while and many have voiced - to hear one break ranks of SC and come out with it - kudos to you.

I saw him profiled on American Greed last night. He's left the country. Downloaded all our images, cleaned out his Swiss and Cayman Island accounts and absconded.

Thanks, Simms. I feel like I didn't say anything that was news. If Langdon were around, he'd have posted something!

And you are also right that I don't have to "abide" by editing rules because I do not enter, but that doesn't mean I don't understand them. Most are quite easy to apply, and where there is a debate, it more about "is that cloning too much?" and we have ample precedent to draw upon. It is that "institutional knowledge" that I think helps the site lot. We have debated and thought about most of the issues that the are few "new" scenarios for us. Longterm SC members are invaluable in this regard, and I would never support a clean slate approach because we'd lose a lot of knowledge and experience that comes into play every day. That said, if you all said "we've had enough of Frisca, bring in the new blood" I would make way without hestation, but what I think we need is more SC at this stage.

In addition, I feel like I bring other skills to the Site Council that we need (at least, that is how I massage my poor ego...) Diplomacy and member relations comes to mind. :)

While I do vote on DQs, I find our rules easy to understand, and where editing is on the line, I rely on the efforts of other SC who are more skilled than me in that area to assist me. And I support the addition of more SC members who are more active in the challenges to give us a fresher perspective. Sorry to hijack the thread. I just wanted to continue engaging this discussion because it is not one we've had before.

Does SC support new SC members from the Southern Hemisphere. There are many hours a day when there is no SC online at all....!

So, would you support Judi being consisered for SC? I will put the motion forward and I am sure we can get a fair few people to second it..

So officially - I would like the SC to consider Judi for the position of SC along with Bear - her accomplishments speak for themselves, as does her popularity, her skill both in camera and in the darkroom and her challenge entering credentials are amongst the best on the site and she would certainly bring something fresh to the SC. She would also fill in that area of zero SC coverage due to her location.

Would she get your support Frisca? I'd imagine its a no brainer.

+1 for Judi!

Not that it matters, but this is fun (like Fantasy Football fun)

Here's a few others I would nominate for their kindness, helpfulness and level-headedness:
SpiritualSpatula
YoSpiff
Melethia

eta: tanguera (fo sho)

Does anyone know if Langdon is okay? Something dreadful might have happened to him. Maybe a missing person's alert ought to be given to police.

Have you all forgotten he's recently discovered the joy and sleeplessness of fatherhood...or was that marriage? :) Maybe this 10 year old is less important now that it is beyond the nappy phase.

Another enthusiastic yay for Judi.....and as long as we're looking south, both hotpasta & roz would be super candidates were they so inclined.

Wasn't that like two years ago? I think he got married in like 2006 or so.
