Crap. No wonder people looked at me funny when I put my left foot in.

But I'm married, if I quit faffing I'll probably kill somebody.

Lets put it this way - if I was to take over the site tomorrow, there are possibly three or four SC who wouldn't get the chop straight away - I can name and shame those who would go, but they know who they are already. Yes, we will hear the same nonsence *whinge*"But they do loads behind the scenes" but for f**ks sake - show us you really love photography and that DPC isnt just an internet `habit` you have. Get behind a camera and start putting some entries into challenges or relinquish your SC badge and become a regular member - no, that wouldn't happen - if you wasn't SC you would of left a long time ago.

Doesn't matter anyway - the site is in its death throes these days.

Rob(bear) for SC - yeah, that would be a good start - but only if he replaces someone.

+1, some refreshing honesty

My 2 cents...

I was under the assumption that the only reason Bear wasn't SC
was that he didn't want to be,
but seeing as how he as indicated he would serve if asked,
the site would be beyond foolish not to ask.
(And why is this post
structured like
a modern poem
that doesn't
rhyme.)

I think Bear would make a fine addition, should he choose to take on the additional responsibilities of that role. He has been incredibly helpful to me, since, quite literally I believe, day one.

Ha! Somebody will take this the wrong way.

Yes, Bear would be great. Turnover is a good idea, and I would love to see more interest in photography from the more quiet and relatively absent members of the SC.

Very quiet on the site council side....how about some input guys and gals...... 'cept you Gen

Ok - if the revolution is (hopefully) going to occur, how about some other Site Council contenders? There appears to be more than one inactive member of SC, so how about this thread becomes a concerted effort to update the inactive members completely? Also, what about considering members from other parts of the world? Currently from what I can see, there is only one member that is located outside of USA/Canada. Would it be possible to consider SC members from other countries / the other hemisphere? This would maybe help when someone is looking for that unofficial opinion pre challenge as well as maybe provide other time-line associated benefits.

So.... calling all cars, calling all cars, 'NOMINATE SITE COUNCIL MEMBERS' here. (Seriously folks, let's see who gives a flip)
09/03/2012 12:32:08 AM · #59
I give a flip, I just do not see any way for this to succeed. There are no elections, there is no constitution. SC and Langdon make the rules.

The only influence we have is with our membership money. We could boycott, but then we run a very real risk of destroying what we want to "improve". In two weeks, it will have been 10 years.

I do not wish to force anyone off council, but I would pose this question... If as a member of site council, you do not have the time to act on member requests in a timely fashion, (two years and no action on things like the DPL, is NOT timely), then perhaps it is time to ask yourself if it is not time to step down, and pass the torch to people who have more time.

IMHO all to often, rather than even an answer of NO, questions seem to be simply ignored until the question is no longer asked. Is this the type of customer service tou would want when you buy something. Memberships are indeed purchases. Since they are mandatory for full access, they cannot be called donations.

I do not want to see anyone run out of town on a rail, I do not want to see the demise of DPC.

Rather than name calling and saber rattling, I would really like to see this, or perhaps a fresh thread, evolve into an honest respectful dialog. Langdon and the SC. I have no doubt you "give a flip". But we do need to hear from you, we do need to talk to you. Your last news update on the opening page is almost 8 months old! Speak to us. Reassure us that you are there, listening and caring.

Edited to correct some really bad spelling.

Um no. scalvert does a great job; controversial at times but fully engaged and willing to get into a wide variety of issues.

I'm a fan of Bear too of course, but no replacements needed; bolstering only thank you.

+1. I too am not advocating SC replacements, but i think Bear would do an admirable job as SC also.

Current odds

100/1 - Langdon replies to thread
50/1 - SC members stand down and new ones assigned
33/1 - Bear assigned to SC
1/10 - Thread dies

Bear's been nothing but helpful to me ;)

I'm not in favor of loosing scalvert or anyone else for that matter. I do favor Bear having a seat though. I will send a message of support to Mr. L.....others consider doing the same.

Don't know about this one. During my residence I've only seen 2 sc being actively involved in the day to day of DPC. Now it seems more like 1. I do know that there are definitely more behind the scenes that are active on SC types of things, and I greatly appreciate that.

But does being on the SC make people think they need to recuse themselves from the day to day life of DPC? Or are the majority of the current members just not interested in DPC anymore, and are kind enough to keep on with their SC duties despite losing interest?

Bear is one of the most active, most helpful members here. I'd hate to think that adding him to the site council might change what he does and how he does it.

I can't see that it would -- but I've always wondered why the SC is in the background, not the foreground of the site.

Note: I have found many of the SC to be incredibly helpful, quite responsive, and wonderful to work with. So don't take any of this as a negative regarding the current SC

I know right? :)

Funny enough she's another one I'd LOVE to see on the SC, tanguera is nothing if not experienced, kind, and fair.

I agree...Simms for Site Council. And while we are at it.....I nominate Alex to join the pack and I will even throw my hand up. This site definitely needs some one from the Southern Hemisphere on the board.
