It's a matter of choice & utilization. The challenges are there for your use as a teaching/learning tool, both through entering, and voting/commenting. You get out of anything what you put into it, and quite frankly, all of the motivation and challenge anyone needs is readily available. Don't like the topic? Then push yourself to do well with it. *DO* like the topic, then really go all out with a subject that's appealing.....

I've never quite understood the level of constant complaining about the attributes of the site. Change this, do that, this rule's unfair, that technique should be allowed........it's like picking flysh*t out of pepper. The opportunities are here, the community is stellar as a resource, and it surely seems to me that people improve radically in a very short time......at least the ones who enthusiastically throw themselves into the challenges and the community.

I know I prefer to delight in the changes when they arrive, and consider them as a bonus rather than an expected, long overdue entitlement. I sure cannot think of anything in my life that I get a return on $25 that comes close to what I've gotten here. I'm most certainly in it for the long haul, gratefully and delightedly.

This site is like no other I've seen out there, and I'm happy and proud to have found my way here six years ago.

Not just +1, but +11 gazillion bajillion. Approximately.

That's what I was noticing. Good to see ya, guys! MK's web site shows her taking some nice pictures now out there in the midwest...

Season 2 of the Walking Dead just came out yesterday. Thought you'd like to know.

Zombies I like, vampires on the other hand, particularly the glitter variety I can do without.

I can do without those, and all the other silly mythological creatures that seem to be popular right now... Of course, clearly, it's just me.

I always considered you, yourself, a mythological creature, Cory.

I reported her post as Spam. It can't possibly be her. Someone had to have hacked her account.

I'll add a smiley in case someone actually thinks I'm serious... :D

I don't think so, just too many challenges to enter.

a little research showed a dramatic drops in most contest over time

i realize there are more contest now than back in the day but it does seem as both the quantity and quality has been steadily fading over time

is it just me or have dpers gone elsewhere

And the last one you entered was expert editing. Those expert editing challenges do not get as many entries as the others. Look at Street, that has over 100 and train tracks has almost 100. But I'll bet the Moon challenge which is also expert editing will also have less than 50 entries. Right now it's 7. Expert Editing challenges are really not that popular.

The Dead Collector: Bring out yer dead.
[a man puts a body on the cart]
Large Man with Dead Body: Here's one.
The Dead Collector: That'll be ninepence.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.
The Dead Collector: What?
Large Man with Dead Body: Nothing. There's your ninepence.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.
The Dead Collector: 'Ere, he says he's not dead.
Large Man with Dead Body: Yes he is.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not.
The Dead Collector: He isn't.
Large Man with Dead Body: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm getting better.
Large Man with Dead Body: No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment.
The Dead Collector: Well, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I don't want to go on the cart.
Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, don't be such a baby.
The Dead Collector: I can't take him.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I feel fine.
Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, do me a favor.
The Dead Collector: I can't.
Large Man with Dead Body: Well, can you hang around for a couple of minutes? He won't be long.
The Dead Collector: I promised I'd be at the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today.
Large Man with Dead Body: Well, when's your next round?
The Dead Collector: Thursday.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I think I'll go for a walk.
Large Man with Dead Body: You're not fooling anyone, you know. Isn't there anything you could do?
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I feel happy. I feel happy.
[the Dead Collector glances up and down the street furtively, then silences the Body with his a whack of his club]
Large Man with Dead Body: Ah, thank you very much.
The Dead Collector: Not at all. See you on Thursday.
Large Man with Dead Body: Right.

I myself am not comfortable with the expert ones. It requires much more time for processing, setting it up etc. and I feel like is leaving a bit the photographic essence of the site IMHO.

I feel better documenting things rather then create them.

Regarding the dying agony of the site... I have been here, although not that active or involved in the forums, for 9 years already. I would also probably die with the site as well and pay to be a member to support the site. I keep on coming back here for more then what the challenges are.

There are lots of other interesting images, for everybody's cup of tea. There are news from around the world (well sometimes mostly from the US...), there are new products reported, there are tragedies and happy events, all sort. I enjoy!

I would personally appreciate a better individual gallery for the members, something like the photo.net. The way is now I can not really link it or present my pics to others.

... office hours, break is over, back to work

... but I'll keep an eye on this thread

Regards,

Tibi

it seems to me that dpc isnt the only site suffering. 1x and 500px are both quite deflated from their heyday

A classic scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail .... one of my favorites.
I really hope that DPC proofs to be as classic as this one. Although a member for only a few months. I do like this community and I really hope I can be part of it for a long time!!

I'm new here (just paid for membership) about a week ago. I was absolutely blown away by how cool this site is. Wish I would have heard about it sooner. I've already got two people checking it on a regular basis and one of them just ordered his first DSLR based on images he sees on this site. Seems to me, it's up to the community to spread the word and ignite the passion.
