Well Art, you know the rules, no Godzilla until you've done your Greek alphabet.

For those who want a deeper perspective this gets at the issue somewhat from an Aussie perspective. Adult warning..it's deep.

I think DPC has been dying ever since I joined. Maybe there's a connection. ;)

But seriously, someone posts a thread about this idea every once in a while, and here we still are.

yes. we think we are still alive.

The process of death begins with birth, of course DPC is dying, the real question is at what rate?
08/29/2012 01:38:19 AM · #36
Everything's dying, if it wasn't like this there would be no life, no exception here.

For in that sleep of death what dreams may come.

but here, we rather bear the proud man's contumely. (op cit, further on).

I'm relieved DPC does not look like 1x, 500px, etc. To me, those sites call attention to themselves and their slickness, rather than to the photography. People looking for that slickness, latest technological effect gizmo or not DPC's market.

Yes, people leave (we've all done it at least once), and then come back (right K10DGuy?). For all people complain about, there is no other place like DPC. This is a community, a very gregarious and mostly helpful one. Could it be better? Probably. Will it get better? Probably not. Given that these are two things we can reasonably assume to be stable, why not just get on with what DPC does best? Stop whining and start shooting!

Through a combination of flashbacks and mouse clicks.

what are you talking about, after waiting 2 years for some big changes we now have the ability to go to "get satisfaction" and propose changes that will get ignored in a more orderly fashion. this place is thriving my friend!

The site just needs prettying up. The newbie photographers are getting younger and younger and they are getting exposed to a lot of sites with little content but better interfaces. I've been eavesdropping on numerous forums and the one thing preventing people from signing up was that it looked old.

Also we need to upgrade our equipment section asap. We have a wealth of people who can rate and review equipment and accessories with successful examples. Imagine the traffic generated from people trying to find good equipment comparisons without resorting to asking about in the forums.

It's been a little dull lately. I think a good scandal would help. Remember the days of what's his name and what's her name? That was exciting. Maybe some pranks would help. Remember the April fools joke where everyone's score was lowered by a point or when an Ansel Adams photo was slipped in to be voted on. We are just a little stuffy now, but not dead.

It's a matter of choice & utilization. The challenges are there for your use as a teaching/learning tool, both through entering, and voting/commenting. You get out of anything what you put into it, and quite frankly, all of the motivation and challenge anyone needs is readily available. Don't like the topic? Then push yourself to do well with it. *DO* like the topic, then really go all out with a subject that's appealing.....

I've never quite understood the level of constant complaining about the attributes of the site. Change this, do that, this rule's unfair, that technique should be allowed........it's like picking flysh*t out of pepper. The opportunities are here, the community is stellar as a resource, and it surely seems to me that people improve radically in a very short time......at least the ones who enthusiastically throw themselves into the challenges and the community.

I know I prefer to delight in the changes when they arrive, and consider them as a bonus rather than an expected, long overdue entitlement. I sure cannot think of anything in my life that I get a return on $25 that comes close to what I've gotten here. I'm most certainly in it for the long haul, gratefully and delightedly.

This site is like no other I've seen out there, and I'm happy and proud to have found my way here six years ago.
