I am newbie and would like to introduce myself.

I became a member of this group a few days ago. My name is Rebecca and I am from Florida. I currently have full time employment. However, I have become much more passionate about photography. I much rather have a career as a professional photographer. I love taking pictures of nature. I always have been an outdoor person. I figure this site should be a great learning experience for me and put me on the right track for possibly becoming a professional in the future. For the time being, photography is just a hobby.

I am looking forward to participating in the some of the challenges and posting some of the pictures I have taken in the past.

Rebecca - welcome aboard from a fellow floridian! Nice start with a hibiscus image...look forward to seeing more of your pictures.

Welcome from another Floridian..

Good DPC advice:

Check the date and time on your camera, if it's not correct you'll be DQ'd from challenges.
Familiarize yourself with the different rules for editing on challenges
DPC loves eye candy, but we also have a few fringe groups that have been gaining in popularity, try shooting both.
Have fun, and make yourself at home, you've just joined a great, and quirky, family of photographers.

I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Cheers,
-Cory B.

You are very welcome here, Rebecca!

You've come to the right place to learn stuff.

I knew nothing when I came here... entered my photos diligently... and "listened" to the comments... both complimentary and "helpful". :D

I commented on every image that I could... it helped me to understand what I liked in an image by looking at other people's images.

I can't say that I'm really a wonderful photographer now, but I'm SO much better than I was. And it's 'cause I played here... giving and taking from the wonderful folks who frequent here.

I treat it as a game.. much like golf. I have my score (my average) and I enter. If my image's score beats my average... it's a win... no matter how low my average is. If not, I learn what I can from the people who are brave enough to leave me constructive criticism.

It's a great place.

WELCOME!

Welcome to the community, Rebecca!
You'll find DPC is great place to learn and get into photography, with a huge variety of users, everything from those who are just picking up a camera for the first time to those who have been doing it professionally for quite some time.

In addition to what others have said, make sure you remember that comments you get on your challenge entries are meant with the best intentions, and that the viewer has none of the personal attachment you have to the shot, so that moment, the memories and feel you have attached to it, only apply to you.

There are also a few places on the site that are immediately useful for you, namely the How'd They Do That section and the Tutorials. If you ever have a question, check in the forums, as they are pretty active and have probably the best information on the site contained within. Barring that, feel free to shoot me a message- I do a decent amount of nature photography myself and may be able to help you out, as well.

Hi Rebecca! It's good to see you here at DPC too.
Just letting everyone know that Rebecca is one of my Fb friends, and she lives not too far from where I live. I have enjoyed sharing comments on photos with her on Fb.
Thanks everyone for extending a nice DPC welcome to my friend.

Welcome Rebecca, I'm sure you'll have a great time here, it's a super place to learn and grow as a photographer.

Velcome! It will also change the way you shot and share your pictures. In an obsessive way. I also strongly believe that a carrier as a pro will somehow kill that passion and fun...

Enjoy!

Welcome to DPC and it's many charms. Looking forward to seeing your work!

These welcome threads often remind me of some of my first-time visits to a new church. Not sure exactly why.

Anyhow, welcome to DPC, Rebecca. Challenges are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. We're having a potluck this Saturday - please bring a salad or side dish. Did you get a program? :)

Welcome, Rebecca! If your scores get you down and you need a good giggle, please feel free to go through my portfolio from 2006-2008, when I knew pretty much nothing....and when I actually paid attention to the comments, requested critiques and entered a masochistic amount of challenges...well...now at I have a couple of hard-won ribbons and some street cred! You will learn a ton here. There is no way around it. Every single topic imaginable pertaining to photography has been discussed here and people will still be glad to offer advice.

So settle in, start shooting for challenges (and you can suggest challenges, too) and have fun hitting the Update button! :-)
