So my shiny new toy must have a smartphone style CPU. It has a retouching menu built in to the camera. I don't want to break the spirit of the rules so I'll obviously avoid the features that break those.

My question is more for the features that are allowed. If I adjust the levels inside the camera for example, does that file no longer become the original for verification purposes? Do I need to make a copy before editing inside the camera?

" In-camera features applied after the capture are subject to normal editing rules."

quoted from advanced rule set..

Basic rules I think don't allow for in camera editing at all. Somebody can correct me on this if I am wrong on that.

Thanks haha, never occurred to me that they'd be right there in the actual rules. Live and learn.

lol.. no worries..

Yeah i am pretty sure all rule sets allow for camera features that are done while taking the photo, those are fine, its juts the ones after taking the shot that are subject to whatever rule set the challenge has eh

I don't think you'd have a valid original if you edited in camera without making a copy. Certainly not if you're shooting jpg.

I've noticed my Olympus Pen E-PL1 offers raw editing in camera, though I haven't worked out how to use it yet. I did accidentally hit edit raw file on one or two photos, so I'm not sure those would be valid originals either. Fortunately they weren't shots I'd ever enter in a challenge.
