you know, if this place had built-in chat, half the crap that goes on in the forums would never see the light of day, because people would be able to engage each other in private...

Back in the so-called "Good 'ol Days of DPC" Manic set up the DPC fanatics chatroom, which was pretty great. It was a great place to hang out and get to know DPC'ers as people. It was never officially a part of DPC and subsequent chatrooms have not been very successful. Maybe it was because DPCFanatics was operated by a SC member or that some SC members often hung out there and were pretty accessible...I dunno.

Oh...does an interesting image require an interesting challenge...? ;-)

Haven't renewed my membership since last year, won't be re-joining now. This used to be my first stop when I opened my laptop, now I visit occasionally in mild curiosity.

Every time I visti now there's some angry rant thread on the front page or someone quitting over something.

Indeed.

Why don't we have a no bitching week. Anything goes as long as it's positive. It might sweeten that bitterness a bit, at the very least it would force us to see our own negativity, although i suppose im being all holierthanthou for suggesting this.

LOL! Forgiven, John.

But the brouhaha over the pictures foot Dallad Riding? Seriously? If your work is that valuable, do not post it online in any form. Ever.

Yup. I used to try to play peacemaker. I might fail most of the time, but at least I'd try.

I guess we just sit back and watch the fights from now on. That thread has hit a new low, imo.

And I'm done as far as threads. Should any of you want me to know of something, please send me a PM. I will continue to contribute with comments in challenges, newly uploaded photos, and such, and may even enter a challenge now and again.

This used to be the place I'd come at the end of my work day to chat with friends, catch up with folks, see how people are doing. It wasn't just photography for me (obviously, or I'd have more ribbons by now) - it was a family.

And it literally makes me cry to see it fall so very low.

Y'all try to be good to one another.

Just a thought. You can usually make any Challenge interesting by entering an interesting picture.
I suppose that's why it's called a "Challenge."

the current trend of vastly broad topics hasn't inspired me to enter or vote. activity level is down on DPC, mine is, just saying why.

You know, every d***ed one of the recent challenges is taken directly from a user suggestion -- perhaps you could spend a little more time writing up some captivating challenge descriptions instead of dissing your fellow members and the site in every thread. Just sayin' ...

GeneralIE, that may just be the problem. User suggestions, stale, outmoded and just not creative more often than not. Site Council should just play a bigger role.

I love this site, I love the many good, decent, talented, and giving people here, I love pushing myself to be creative and skilled at challenges, and it would never occur to me to let the occasional bit of negativity from a few to detract from my enjoyment of the place that has brought more to my world of photography than all else combined.

Just sayin'

Instead of responding to the few people who constantly try to spread their bitterness all over these forums, why don't we do as Jeb's just done and spread some positive energy. Those people that feed of their constant complaints and trivial bouts of anger will soon get tired of having no one respond, it's a sure way to make things harmonious. We certainly shouldn't just chicken out, leave and let negativity win. We make our own bed.

This place is awesome, anything I've learned about photography was learned by entering challenges on this site, where else would I get the motivation to go and shoot some of the bizar topics we do, my photography is DPC. Do my parents have major flaws, yes, do I still love them, yes.

curious, when have i dissed a fellow member? if anything i have been the opposite and defending members of this site when others decide to pile on for the sake of piling on.

Yup, there's this thread, or even that 'why I love DPC' one that I can't find atm :)

Actually Hahn I believe it is, anything else is just invention :)

My favorite poem of all time:

Not Christian or Jew or Muslim, not Hindu,
Buddhist, sufi, or zen. Not any religion
or cultural system. I am not from the East
or the West, not out of the ocean or up
from the ground, not natural or ethereal, not
composed of elements at all. I do not exist,
am not an entity in this world or the next,
did not descend from Adam or Eve or any
origin story. My place is placeless, a trace
of the traceless. Neither body or soul.
I belong to the beloved, have seen the two
worlds as one and that one call to and know,
first, last, outer, inner, only that
breath breathing human being.
