Canon 7d firmware upgrade
A few upgrades which make this camera even better!
One day I will upgrade from 50D.

Thanks, looks like some interesting new features.
Worth an upgrade from the 50D if you have speedlite(s) and like ETTL remote flash, without having to use the ST-E2 and the 7D AF is great, aside from taking the FF route, you can't really go wrong, probably a more sensible price now than it was.

Added to diary.
Looks like very worthwhile upgrade.
Glad Canon has decided to do this with the current 7d instead of just incorporating it into a new model.

wow... a firmware upgrade that actually does something useful without having to buy a new body to add firmware features.... I am glad to see them getting pressed by Nikon and others to add features instead of following their normal path.

Im waiting for the canon 70d to come out

As one of 710 members/users on DPC who own a Canon 7D, I would have thought this thread would have been two or three pages by now. LOL.

I for one, am thrilled and excited about the new features and in camera functions this firmware release entails. I can't wait until August!

Having had mine for 15 months or so it's like getting a brand new camera not long after getting the current one. LOL. Seriously, I love what Canon has done here, and look forward to even more innovations in the future. Thanks Canon!

I know...the waiting game is killer. LOL. I read the press release last Thursday morning while having my morning coffee and getting ready for work. I was so excited, and wished I didn't have to go in that day, but decided...hey, I'll just come home and download it later, and it would give me something to look forward to during the day.

Then.....I read the last line of the article....releasing in August! ArrrrgggggHHHHHH! LMAO.

Oh well, it's worth the short wait.

Thinking about getting rid of my 7D and a few lenses but I may wait and see if the upgrade is enough of a kick in the backside so I actually start using it again. Looks interesting but I was not as excited as David ! ;-)

Firmware 2.0 now released on the Canon site. I've updated and I've had only a short time to play around with it. Mostly the RAW in camera adjustments. Can't wait to spend more time with it! :)

Just wanted to let everyone know it's out there now. Happy updating!

This link is for the New Zealand site - is there any difference if the update is downloaded from there? It doesn't seem to be available on the US site.

I'm particularly interested in the Max Auto-ISO setting since sometimes I forget and leave it on auto and end up with ISO3200 images and lots of noise.

I was wondering that as well as it's not available on the UK site yet

How do you upgrade?
08/07/2012 03:25:28 AM · #16
Yeah I had to hunt for the firmware, but it's there on the Canon US website. After you select your OS and version it should be under the Firmware link.

That's why I sent you that autographed 8x10 color glossy before I left, John.

Yes thanks, it's helped me through this terrible time, I light an incense and stick in my sausage every morning as a homage, I'm really glad you're back as it was becoming unbearable, this is the fourth box.

Bizzare it's not on the UK site .... I'm going to apply the download from the US site tonight and see if that works ... can't see why it wouldn't

So can all the "early adopters" (or as I call em... Victims :-) ) want to report back on any side affects before the rest of us do the update ;-) Will be away on business, so might do it at the w/e instead of now. It really is nice to see a non trivial firmware update for a change.....
08/07/2012 04:15:13 PM · #24
The only side effect so far, for me, is that I've already taken several Pulitzer Prize worthy images after the update. It's really made me a better photographer, and it's a great way to stay in shape.

Updated fine for me .... After having to install the canon utilities on my laptop as I can't find a card reader!!
