Over the ages, mankind has knowingly tried to *improve* the world as they explore it, thinking that by introducing certain species of plants/animals/birds from their homeland, they are adding something significant and beneficial to a new land.

Often, their well-meaning intentions backfire completely - think rabbits in Australia, kudzu in America, Canada Geese in Britain - and you get the general idea. At some point it seemed to someone like a fine idea, but it has since backfired and the species in question has become a pest, at the very least. More seriously they often usurp indigenous species as they have no natural defenses against the newcomers.

So this challenge would capture such an invasive species, knowingly introduced by man. A Shakespeare fanatic released not one, but two flocks of starlings in Central Park...as I understand it, kudzu was imported to the US from the East as a form of natural defense...I don't recall who or why rabbits were introduced to Oz but they're there to stay.

Longest challenge description ever!!

But hey, we got these nasty Chinese stink bugs around here with no natural enemies... Would make a great Macro.

Rabbits and foxes were introduced to Australia in the nineteenth century so the English-bred gentlemen who came to Australia could still enjoy their hunting. There are millions of feral camels, pigs, water buffalo, donkeys, horses, cats etc ... and that's only the introduced animal life.

Pythons in the Florida Everglades
A good crop of these devils would take care of the fox and rabbit problem for you.

Sounds like they would, but, no thanks, we'll do without them. (And they probably wouldn't be effective cane toad controllers.)
It's such a sad and devastating thing that twits can ruin whole ecosystems with their thoughtlessness. No excuse for it these days.

All those beautiful reeds I'm always shooting in my marshes? An invasive species :-(

Oh, have an idea for this! Just don't know how to implement it. Might be one I should share with someone who has the resources to do it.

This should be called the "Invasive Species" challenge.

There should be another challenge called "It seemed like a good idea at the time" with no description at all. That would be a great challenge.

Yeah, from the title, I was thinking more along the lines of that old joke of what's the last thing a redneck says: "hold my beer and watch this!"

sounds great.
I like topics that, if you can't meet the challenge with natural entries from where you live,
you can go comedic, or perhaps attack it from a different point of view.

I was going to title this challenge suggestion Invasive Species, but thought it sounded kinda clinical and boring. Besides, most of them were well-intentioned screwups :-)

Which are pretty much the same thing, only invasions like the Spaniards invading Peru etc, are more for the benefit of the invaders, not the invadees. Anyhoo enough splitting hairs.
