Wonder if those who missed the Landscape challenge because of the weather will have better chances with this one...

I'll be in Steamboat Springs all weekend and there is actually a 30% chance of rain, so sayeth my Iphone. I'm crossing my fingers

Time to go buy some new equipment.
I have an awesome idea, just have to see if I can pull it off.
Guaranteed to snag brown, I'll bet money on it.

Might want to invest in some of these...

Clouds and misty drizzle this morning. Now we are receiving snow flurries at midday. I may not see the rain I need to shoot this challenge, as the weather is dancing around "real rain".

Would have to fake the rain here in the desert LOL

gotta love the idea of buying equipment to snag a brown!

The rain, which was forecast for today, is falling as snow. That is technically "frozen rain". A very liberal interpretation of the challenge could be "In the snow". I suppose I would not get away with that. Oh, well.

No rain here. I'll have to use a hose. However, my dog and my kids hate the challenges with the fake rain -- it's so much colder than the real rain!!

i bought one of these and found them to NOT be very helpful... if they are not used just right, they actually funnel the rain right into/onto your camera.

what i found was better was a small "box" made from black coroplast material (like this). I'll try to post a photo of what i made a little later. it allows access to all the controls, and the camera and lens are completely covered (providing the wind isn't blowing rain around).

OK. don't laugh... here are a few photos of my "rainproof box"... its a little rough, but it works... might not work so well with wide angle lenses, though. also, sorry for cell phone photo quality...

any questions, lemme know.

I'll happily skip this challenge for this:

This is an interesting challenge. Not that I'm fond of rain but because it's in expert editing. I'm always frustrated on all my rain shots and it's an opportunity to learn how the experts doing in this challenge.

I'm using Optech Rainsleeve during a Water Festival and Dallas challenge recently. It's a gift from a friend and he bought it in UK. I guess he should soon be a participant here.

At first impression it does look like a "Disposable" plastic bag but slightly thicker. There is a hole at the rear for fixing it into view finder cap. Perfectly fix to protect my 70-200 lens, body and external flash. After taking around 500 shots with it, it's still strong and look durable. The sealed joins still bonding nicely and I guess I could still be using it for many times more. When folded, it's merely the size of filter box and I'm keeping it in my shoulder bag all the time now. It's wisely to buy spare if that can save shipping fee. I'm strongly recommended it.... for rain and seascape.

Okay, we experienced the required precipitation and I did execute an image capture with same. Didn't have to add any digi-rain. People (non-DPC) have already told me the inclusion of precip makes it "magical". Of course, that's a far cry from what the voters will think. But, on something like this, the score is less important than successfully meeting the challenge and presenting an image in my style.

Besides, it'll give you something to complain about in the scores thread! :-) We all need to have that!

Well, let's say my expectations for my image's score in an Expert Edit challenge are extremely low. It is the prerogative of the member voters to expect images to look like they've taken advantage of the allowed techniques. They'll express their preferences via their votes. It's okay. I expect a 4.5 score on my entry. I won't complain.... I'll just enjoy viewing the submissions of everyone and reward the best images with the highest scores.

T-Storms this afternoon through tomorrow morning. Who would have thought the mountain desert would be a hot spot for rainfall?

It's an excuse to buy those things anyways. Something I should have had a while back.

Didn't realize this was Expert... WHY???

All I can figure is if we don't get good weather we can make rain with the garden hose and overlay it?

Assuming this is fake rain, does anybody know how to create rain like this?
05/12/2012 07:16:13 PM · #25
Showers here today. I am off in search of something interesting to photograph.
PS How waterproof is 5D MKII with 24-105 lens? It is windy as well so not much will work but it is not pouring. I could have a chance at spotting inside out umbrellas ;)
PS2 If I want reflections I guess I forget the polarizer filter?
