Description: Your photo must be made up of two or more copies of the same photo flipped to create a symmetrical image.
Rules: Advanced
Extra rule: You MUST use two or more copies of the same photo, using the same crop for each copy.

Examples:

//www.flickr.com/photos/etavonni/9244022/
Or this guy's collection of Beautiful Mutants.

awesome! I'm excited for this!

Clarification: Only one photo flipped, is that the understanding? So basically advanced editing, only you are allowed to flip it?

Wow, one of my suggestions was actually picked. Now I'll have to find something to enter.

I never showed my own examples in case I wanted to reshoot them, but I don't think I'll get to the right place.

.
These can be a lot of fun to do, & fun to look at. Good Idea! Glad they changed it to Expert.

I'm not going to enter, but I have been doing a bunch of this stuff lately, all my myself! While these images don't always adhere to the rules, maybe you'll find something inspirational in them. :)

are ewe allow to modify one of mirrored images independent of the other?

Sheep have a hard time using Photoshop, and are not allowed to become members anyway ... ;-)

I think the two sides are supposed to be mirror images -- that's the point of "symmetry" -- I think editing the two sides differently defeats the purpose of the challenge.

I have a similar question, Are we allowed to expert edit our image, photoshop the crap out of it, and then start flipping that single pre-edited image?

Related question... Can the symmetry be produced by using a "mirror image" effect in a photo pp program, instead of making two copies of the same image and pasting them side by side using pp?

Here's one I did long time ago;

I always called this "kaleidoscoping".

I will boycott this challenge in support of the rights of sheep to enter this or any other challenge.

Sure you hear people say "Those guys are just sheep, they just follow along, never thinking for themselves" but I say "What about the black sheep? Bold individuals who stand apart form the flock, free independant thinkers."

Full rights for our ovine brothers! If they can get on the internet why should we bar their becoming members?

Fight discrimination in all its forms!

I wonder. Someone has to ask. I wonder if a flip'n'blend is legal? It's symmetrical.
No sheep were harmed in the PP of this image.

For the third time, "why not?"

In fact, "legality" is irrelevant, it's just whether the voters will think it meets the challenge description, and to that I say, again, "Why not?" :-)

What is flip'n'blend, please? I don't have sheep.

I had that question originally too but I didn't get the "why not" brigade. :P lol. I guess for me, the description seemed like maybe the intent was for one image (originally posed as an advanced editing challenge with a special rule set). So I guess it comes down to if you consider 'image' to mean a single exposure or a single composition.

The way you put it makes sense though. :)

Ah, but you know the old saying:
"Baa, baa black sheep!"
we all know those who coined the saying were New Englanders who lost their 'r's.
therefore, Bar the Black sheep, I say!

I did have a doubt.

The description for the challenge seems to say that you can take your image, copy it, flip it, & paste it back in after you have increased the canvas size to make room for it, to create a perfectly symmetrical image.

But you can also get a perfectly symmetrical image if you copy it, flip it, paste it back in as a new layer (without increasing the canvas size), & blend on difference.

Both results are symmetrical, but they don't look anything alike. The first is surreal. The second is abstract. The first one creates a duplicate of the image, mirrored. The second creates a whole new image.

To answer your question, yes. One photo, flipped.

Being a dairy farmer's granddaughter, I first read this challenge as Artificial Insemination.

As this challenge was my suggestion, I will say that flip and blend certainly wasn't what I had in mind. Whether it is legal or not given that the challenge is under expert editing, I'm not sure.
