On Saturday, June 23, my Mojave show will be opening at the Kelso Depot in the Preserve. It is a heck of a drive, and I truly do not expect anyone to go out there. However... my sweetie has mentioned that if enough people are interested, we might rent a party bus to shuttle us all to and from the Mojave. What say you?

Oh, that'd be so cool! Wish I could be there for that :-) Tell the Hand Bear says congrats on a great idea.

I've been wanting to head out there after I saw your images on Abandonment... Maybe I can make a weekend out of it. Keep us posted.

And, in your last thread I asked where you stay when you are in that area... any suggestions?

Could that bus swing by Seattle?

Lodgings are quite limited, actually. The only place to stay in the park is on their campgrounds, which are many. The only hotels are all some distance. The closest towns are Primm (to the northeast, on the way to Vegas), and Barstow (to the soutwest, heading towards LA). There is a tiny little historic B&B on the northeastern end of the park, called Nipton. This is arguable the "closest" place to stay, but you have to be quite adventurous to stay there, as it's in a minuscule little ghost town, and there are only about 7 to 10 rooms there :-)

It would be awesome to meet you!

ETA answer to Ken:

We'll send the limo for you :-)

Yup, assembled from car parts I found in the Mojave!

Have you camped out there? Is it busy with a lot of people? We have a tent trailer and the only thing we really need is a source of water.

Sounds like an adventure to stay out there... I'll have to bring a couple of six shooters to wear on my hips while we walk around.

Hmmm..... Thinking about the possibilities.....

This will be my fifth trip there and we've not used (or even visited!!) the campgrounds. If we have time, we might do so this time, just to see what they're like. There is virtually no one about when driving, although we will run across a car now and then. Whenever we visit the depot in Kelso we are also surprised by that there are people there. But I don't think "crowding" is an issue there...

Just updating the info on the "opening" such as it is. Apparently, there is no "official" opening, but if I want to bring out friends, they suggest between 2-4 pm. That means this would be a daytrip on Saturday, June 23, and we'd all be home for dinner. Still considering a "party bus" if enough people show interest...
