Other than the camera and lenses, what miscellaneous items do you pack for a short outing/weekend?

For me:
A black Sharpie marker
A regular pen and notepad
2 sets of extra batteries - one for me and somebody who forgot extras.
Enough memory cards to choke a weasel
Business cards
Microfiber cloth- the ones that clip on the bag's zipper are good
USB card reader for laptop
Black electrical tape
Portable camera battery charger

not really. It all depends on where I am headed as to what I take along. My old achy body can't handle any excess weight

I've gotta ask - why does it seem everyone has tape?

I've got filters, mini tripod, batteries, cards, a shoulder sling, intervalometer, and other mundane things.

The strangest thing I probably have is a silicone jar opener. Attach it to the focus ring and it allows for well controlled focus shifts when taking video.

In a pinch tape fixes many things.
Need a flash stand, tape the flash to a tree, branch, random stick, whatever.
Velcro strip (for my gels) falls of the flash without my knowledge, tape fixes that.
I can slit my flashes with gaffe tape for more control.
Need to shut a client up, tape to the rescue.

Rock and Roll has left me with at least two superpowers:

1. the ability to use duct tape for almost anything
2. the ability to effortlessly pack inconceivably big objects into any vehicle.

+1, been there, done that for about 20 years, survived, still play music once in a while with friends.
When the aliens make a ray gun that causes duct tape to fall off everything, we're doomed.
