The results of the 'Further on up the Road' challenge have been recalculated, due to the disqualification of the blue ribbon winner for failing to provide a valid original within the required timeframe. Congrats to our new winners!

Surely you mean the blue ribbon?

Dammit, you posted before I could edit that :)

That's OK, it was a red DOOR :-)

Wow how long did you give them to provide the original or is it a case of they have provided an original and its not valid?
04/18/2012 09:25:08 AM · #6
The photographer said it was a composite, so not surprised by the DQ.

Right, and he's new; only second entry, never posted to forums. It wouldn't just be the composite aspect; the landscape shot itself would not have been taken within the challenge dates. Tough way to learn :-(

We'd already initiated the request before the challenge ended, and as per the rules we allow at least 48 hours for the photographer to respond (either with the original & editing steps or with a good reason for a delay).

I'd wager that with the sudden increase in expert challenges that this will happen more often, both by mistaking the rule set and by newcomers whose first impressions are of expert challenges.

as a newcomer, the first time i saw "advanced" i thought "photoshop whatever" until i read the rules.
that's right, read the rules. the rules are there posted for Every challenge, you just have to read what they say and not give it your own interpretation - what a novel idea! :p

on one hand i feel bad that he won a blue on his second entry and had it removed, on the other i don't feel bad because he quite clearly knew what he was doing in photoshop and didn't bother to read the rules set in place for the editing allowed.

i hope that this person sticks around and pays attention to the rules for future challenges, i can see them doing well as long as they stick to site rules. :)

I have shot bracketed shots and PPed them in photomatix and went to submit them then noticed the challenge was a basic editing lol. That kind of thing can happen, no biggie. It's still a great image. It could easily be done in a single image BTW. All it would take is a red door and a single 2x4. Gayaban has done setups 1000x's harder many times.

Yeah, and that. Lol

Although I went camping last weekend in Western Colorado and woke up to a pretty snowy scene.

Ruidoso is above 6000 feet, not surprised at the snow. I guess a lot of people are surprised that it snows AT ALL in NM or AZ for that matter :) Bummer about the disqual, it IS a nice picture but chazoe makes a very good point about hindsight d'oh!

Oh, I'm well aware New Mexico has mountains and snow; I used to ski Taos, I've hung out in Santa Fe and Albuquergue... It's just that the weather lately in Ruidoso has been in the 70s... I suppose it's possible they still had ice/snow-laden trees within the last couple weeks, but... It doesn't really matter, does it? I'm just rambling here.

Sure! I've seen 'em in Colorado at around 8000 feet.

OK, I have assumed this was IR. The snow does not look right.

I thought it was a hoar frost rather than snow.
