I´ve gone digital for a half year by now, with a FinePix S5000. I´ve tried lots of photography subjects and i´m pleased with the results. The only subject that just didn´t go as i expected is about portraits. I made some shooting sessions and the results where almost none pictures with a narrow DOF. Then, i recently read somewhere, that on digital cameras the DOF is wider in almost 5 or 6 steps. I was really sorprised and now i´m wondering if you now some trick to get a smaller DOF on portraits, as it would be with a normal SRL or close to it..

One suggestion I have is to get the Olympus 1.7 teleconverter, and zoom in on your subjects with an aperture of f/2.8 - f/4. This requires more working distance, but may provide you better DOF.
