Is it worth it to buy an L lens for my rebel t1i? will it enhance my clarity and colors ? or would i be wasting my money ? looking to buy the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens.what do you recommend ??? thank you ..

Yes, most definetly. I bought my first L glass, the 70-200 f4 & I could not believe the clarity I was able to get. And that was on my Rebel 300D. A year or so later it was followed by my 17-40 f4. Both are excellant glass & reasonably priced.

Good glass is one of the best investments you can make. The lenses, well taken care of, will last a lifetime.

As a 550d owner, I must say getting a 16-35L and a 70-200 f4 IS has improved the image quality so much more than a change in body ever would have. It is definetely worth it.

However, once you get L glass, be prepared to looking for a FF body afterwards :)

Not a waste of money. You can always sell it in the future if you keep it in good shape.

An L level lens will add performance to your Rebel. I got the 70-200 2.8 IS and the 100-400 when I was using the Rebel XT and noticed dramatic improvements in my shots. The glass holds it's value well too.

I highly recommend any or all L series lenses. They cost a lot but I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. If you can afford it, buy the L series.... such a huge difference. I know I wont buy another type of lens.

Crop cameras such as the rebel will often benefit more from L glass than a full frame camera. A smaller sensor means smaller pixels. With smaller pixels you need really good glass to resolve the details.

I will be the voice of dissent here and say it's a big fat maybe. Are your current lenses limiting you in sharpness or clarity? I can definitely see by what is in your profile, that you have the kit lens and a 50mm. I would agree that a specialty lens like a wide angle, or bigger zoom, may help you achieve some shots you currently cannot. I don't have any L glass and I seem to be holding my own. In fact, most of my recent entries have been with the Powershot G11 or my inexpensive EF-S 18-135.

If you can afford it and want it, by all means go for the L glass. It's a definite pleasure to use nice stuff, but it is not a magic bullet.

I would say, generally, yes.

my 70 - 200 is much sharper than the tamron longish lens i use.

however, my kit lens is sharper than the 17-40L that i have.

Not all L glass is made the same. Please be patient in your research.

Go to a shop and "weigh it out" vs your rebel if at all possible. Weight balance may feel off with some of the heavier zooms. Some places will let you take pictures with said glass as well. You can save these and use em to help tip the decision.

IQ difference, possibly. Help with distortion and sharpness, very likely. More solid build and feel, yes.

If you stay with photography, your lenses will outlast your body. Think of your kit as a collection, and an L lens is a good addition over and above the quality of image it will add to your Rebel.
