I'm in but choosing an image was tough. Reading through this forum there are so many interpretations on what is acceptable. The challenge description is very vague and probably intentionally. I ended up concentrating on 3 of my 100 shots. Looking forward to seeing what everybody came up with.

i cant wait to see he score of the ribbon winners. might be the lowest yet, unless someone shoehorns it.

If there is the slightest ambiguity in a challenge, the voters will jump on it to give themselves the excuse to vote low, hope I'm wrong but I doubt it. let's see if we can keep this one above the belt, after it starts, the first one to discuss their interpretation of the challenge is a looser, we just post scores if we want, everybody OK with that ?

Sounds good to me as there has been a lot of "loose talk" in the voting threads lately. Even in this thread I think talk of low scores (why with 100 shots to get something compelling and advanced editing?) and shoehorns (what would constitute that?) probably isn't helpful even if it is well meaning...

Just thought of what I'm going to shot. The only thing I'm debating is whether someone is doing the same thing.

I'd rather submit a junk unique photo than an unoriginal good one.

It's impossible to prevent such discussions, but I will do my best to confuse them.

I can tell you from extensive experience will get you an average in the mid-4 range and (hopefully) a couple of really good comments ...

Just submitted my entry. Not my best so far... but I like the capture and edit... so it's doomed to fail. :P

Well,. I had no interest in this challenge at first but today I decided I would just go with the flow and give it a go.. and it was a ton of fun lol.. almost fell a few times with my camera lol, and the result is nothing like i would normally shoot but you know what, I kinda like it..

Hope you all had as much fun taking your photos as I did.. hehe

Good luck to all.

Well it is Advanced Editing.. so ofcourse you can crop and edit your photo to make the best of it.. just because its a closed eyes challenge, doesn't mean you can't do all the things advanced editing allows on any other challenge with this ruleset. :)

Well I participated and all I'll say is that it was a LOT of fun, and useful from a critical standpoint after seeing them all... My friend walked me around holding me by the shoulder as I couldn't see and I shot a lot of crap - of all the (85) photos (it was late) i found 9 that weren't bad, but one that is probably one of the best photos i've ever taken (in my mind)... anyway like I said I'd do before I shot in JPG and then straight to DPC. Good luck to all!

Well I personally will assuming every entry was taken either with eyes literally closed or at least without looking in the viewfinder or live view screen.. theres no way to tell otherwise so heres hoping everyone done one of those to comply.

I do also predict alot of low voting and comments full of moaning and accusing of this that and the other lol.. hey, you can only do your best, follow the ruleset and description and see where it takes you.. nothing we can do about those that want to play dirty for the sake of trying to better their own placings in a competion with no prizes.. lol.. always baffles me that voting mentallity lol

I wish everyone good luck and look forward to seeing the entries.. I have a couple of photo shoots tomorrow so will check them out when I get home from those :)

I'm sure I'll vote this high and hope to see a lot of uncontrived photos.
03/29/2012 09:27:45 PM · #244
and btw, uncontrived does not mean blurry and tilted. no dnmc's from me.

I had a problem getting a subject to close my eyes and shoot, chased dogs, kids and family, all I got was rear ends and feet! LOL

I'm entering a shot with the lens cap on.

Just made a last minute change. I'm sure it's for the worse, but for some reason, seems like the right thing to do. I have a good number of outtakes I'm still debating. Only another hour before I don't have to think about this one anymore.

I had to go a little Don Henley with mine... but survived to tell the tale.

I was walking down our main street, eyes closed, taking pictures, as you do, when just for good measure I shot one back over my shoulder. Then I heard, from some distance back
'Did she just take your picture?'
'Why, why would she do that?'
'She did, I swear she just took your picture'
'No, she wouldn't have.'
'Let's go and ask her'
A moment later a young man came up and said, 'Excuse me, did you just take my girlfriend's picture?'
So then I had to explain my insanity (and DPChallenge's collective insanity) to this young couple, who heard me out politely. Then the young man said 'Oh, okay' and off they went. I wonder how their conversation went once out of ear shot.
I did indeed get the girlfriend in the outer edge of frame, but I haven't used the shot.
