Oh, what are we doing? While in compliance with the letter and spirit of this challenge, I have discarded a good photo and uploaded something less. That's playing "stupid". My camera's sensor and AF are not blind and stupid. Just me, I guess.

I am a little "stupid". Why are you discarding a better photo that is in compliance of the letter and spirit of the challenge?

Because it's too "good", in a traditional sense. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. If the image is a fine photo, won't it be judged to be DNMC.

I think that's the point of this challenge. To challenge your own conception (and the voter's) of a good photo. There is no correct answer.

None of mine came out as I would have shot them with my eyes open, but some interesting and unexpected compositions came out of it.

I shot this challenge...like the rules said....with my eyes closed. Sadly I believe I have taken the best shot I have ever entered. I also tried a new editing technique that worked out very well.

I used this technique once again (the technique of taking photos without looking in the viewer), this time for the collections challenge.
It helped me find shooting angle that is much more interesting than the ones I could think of.

so is it legal to set up a shot with a tripod and then close ones eyes while clicking a remote? (not that that's what I plan on doing)

If you read the description literally, then yes. I don't think that is in the spirit of the challenge however. Otherwise I could frame up any scene, then just close my eyes the moment I pressed the shutter. Of course, I did choose where to stand when I took my shots, but exactly what I captured was a surprise.

So long as you weren't using a 20mm lens and standing on a cliff overlooking a village, with rolling hills and a sunset in the background...

I used the added challenge of manual focus.

What is this focus you speak of?

Almost at the 100 photo mark....
getting my wife to bring my camera with me today when she picks me up to grab a few more shots for variety purposes.

Hmmm... I guess I understand what you mean but it is hard for me to say what will do well. I would say if an image looks good but looks set up it may not to do well. I think it is a shame that you don't feel like you can use a legit eyes closed shot that you like because it does not communicate eyes closed. However, you may be right.

For this challenge I would not recommend this strategy for a relatively static subject like a landscape shot, but it seems like it would be legitimate to do this to capture a fluid scene such as a busy sidewalk.

That is going to be a key issue with this challenge during voting. It should have been called "Catch 22". ;-)

I recommend in this challenge, to close your eyes and follow your heart.
I don't think there is any logical way to predict the mass behavior's in this challenge.
And if you look for non-logical way, well you can always try this

"Submit the most interesting one."

Yeah, my image still looks like I'm a competent photographer. OMV. Back to the drawing board. Although, I'm not sure I will succeed at achieving an optimal "eyes closed" shot that I can live with.

Per the challenge description, "Submit the most interesting one."

No where does it have to say it sucks! (Mine does, but that is beside the point.)

Really, I think it was an exercise for the photographer. The voters, if they are so inclined, should also see this as an exercise. To take the time to appreciate a bit of serendipity. And again, this doesn't mean the photograph has to be "bad" at all.

Enter the one you like best!

I agree with Deb. Pick the one that you find most interesting, not the one that "looks like" it fits the challenge, and go ahead and edit it the way you would any shot that you liked. This challenge is for the photographer, not the voter.

I don't feel so nervous about my entry now. I had to strighten it crop it a bunch to get it to look right. I still think it is one of my best shots entered here

the whole trick is how long you keep your eyes shut before you click. you can go to an interesting place, take out your camera that has been tricked out to pin hole with wrap and then frame your shot, shut your eyes and click away,

perhaps the only way to do it is to hire a driver, and stop every so often, fully blindfolded, and click, randomly around. then see what you get. if you are inclined to take this all literally...

I find interpreting the description hard on this one, you could always blink as you hit the shutter button and follow the rules, or set up a studio shot and then close your eyes to take the photo, essentially giving you a free study entry. Equally, you can't walk about snapping 100 photos with your eyes closed as you'd probably hurt yourself (or someone else) or break equipment; the best solution seems to be to sit/stand in one place and start snapping with my eyes closed, but I doubt many people will be doing that; how are other people interpreting this?

use your inner eye to frame the shot, a challenge for the photographer, proposed half in jest, towards a complaining acolyte.
