This challenge is like a combo of art 2011, street photography, abstract; all with a tendency toward minimal editing. This could be real doozie! I'm so excited about this challenge. My score will suck, frankly I don't care as the experience will be a lot or fun (not that getting low scores is new to me anyways) :-)

I just had 3 falls while trying to ski with my eyes closed while taking photos. Not a good idea!! ;)

Art says: "Blind Drunk = Eyes Closed"
and all my shots will be from a very low angle. like floor level.

For bonus points I plan to pick any filters used in the same manner, blind.

I've already picked my title (with my eyes closed) ";zlkshf ;okfsrd;OI" <-- if that doesn't spell ART, I don't know what does.

drat, drat, drat!!! I completely forgot about this! I was out where I wanted to be for this challenge, helping a friend learn photography.

I forgot about the challenge!

WTF, Wendy? This is a family friendly site.

...hey, how about a "plug your ears" challenge?

cutout and blindjustice have the right grasp on this challenge. Re-read their comments if you need to.

I won't be shooting with my eyes actually closed, as the chance I'll fall down and hurt myself, or worse - the camera, is pretty great. At my age, I'm not fond of the idea of breaking any bones, thanks! But I have been shooting quite randomly at random things, without looking through the viewfinder. It can be very liberating, allow angles you normally wouldn't get, for instance. Also gives you the chance to see without seeing through a viewfinder. I know that when I go out with my camera specifically to shoot for something, I DO see through my viewfinder. I miss a lot that way. This lets you see and hopefully capture the periphery.

As Jan says, if this isn't for you, it isn't for you. But try it - see if you like it. It is only one challenge. If you don't like it, sit it out and wait for the next one.

The whole point is to have fun, isn't it?

self portrait with eyes closed, I'll likely only get a part of my face in the picture

I haven't been very active on DPC recently and have let my membership slide but this challenge will get my credit card out again. Best challenge idea in ages.

(mind you- i missed the Art of 2011 which looked like fun. I'll have a good look through those soon)

Hey, welcome back, Clive!

Thanks Art. I've only been quiet for a few weeks though. Just seems like a lot longer for some reason.

It's not a test of those who enter, it's a test of the voters.

+100000

I don't like minimal editing, but definitely think this one should be basic with no cropping. It's too easy to improve the composition afterwards in advanced.

I was excited to see the challenge, disappointed to see it was Advanced.

I've been having fun today. I've taken 60 so far, and done all sorts of experiments. Without looking at the camera or subject I've: changed the focal length, changed the focus, changed the shutter speed, moved the camera and zoomed the lens during long exposure, stood in one place and shot up and down and all around, etc. I haven't seen them on the computer yet, but some look interesting in the camera.

Why is hitting your camera button 100 times without looking more fun than composing photos? I figures since this site is full of photographers, they would enjoy taking pictures the classic way (that is, looking at what you're composing), but hey, I'm not an arty high brow type so what do I know.

so this challenge is most likely not for you
thats alright :)

Not for me at all, but that wasn't my point. My point, question actually, was why would would you think people would "start having fun" in this challenge as opposed to others?
03/23/2012 05:57:13 PM · #98
Experimented with this today. It wasn't fun for me. And, I didn't like my results. I would not make a good blind photographer. I guess I prefer my serendipity straight up. We are entering our peak season (early), so I'll just work on landscape, wildlife, nature, etc. Normally, these days would be downtime due to wet/cold weather, but it's turning out to be primetime. That said, good luck to all those who want to play with this concept. It will be fruitful for some, I'm sure.

Trying something new is always fun. I think his point is as simple as that. I doubt that blindfoldedography is the m.o. of anyone here.
