I can beat that. I went from 1 vote - 10, to 2 votes - 5.5. Eat it.

Capture either a sunrise or sunset in black and white.

THe light is a bonus, but read the challenge description.

You have rated 84 of 84 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.9286.

Good work all, lot of really good stuff in there, unlike mine apparently, LOL. My score pretty low, not even going to follow the votes on my entry just based off the first 10 votes.

Good luck to the rest of you!

Wow...

I wish everyone who was voting had tried doing a sunrise/sunset in b&w.

I was surprised and dismayed at just how difficult it was to get an interesting sunset in b&w. If you're curious about it, take your favorite sunset shot and convert it and see what happens. That's what I did before shooting -- I went through my profile, found all the sunset shots and converted them. They were all incredibly boring in b&w!

There's more knowledge and skill that went into this challenge than your normal sunset/sunrise challenge. I expected this to be an incredibly dull challenge. It's not. I just looked through, and there are some truly wonderful shots in here.

Well done!!

Thought I'd post this... as I knew it would inevitably fall quickly.

Woke up at 12:34am.

still better than expected, but it's still early in the voting phase.

And my score continues its downward spiral. Here I thought it was somewhat decent.

i agree with wendy.. its hard to make it interesting..

That was my point - if you don't have the color you need to focus on the light e.g. sun rays in the clouds, a silhouette against the sun, texture of the clouds, reflections in the fog. It would also help to increase the tonal range to bring out textures. And use curves to make light glow.

I thought this was the scores thread. Doesn't seem to me anyone should be discussing "essential" elements of interest during the voting phase.

If someone wants to "teach us" how to do this right, then that person should do so before the challenge begins or after the voting ends.
