Hi DPCers,

I am looking to buy a camera strap that doesn't hurt my neck due to the weight of my camera.

I am currently looking at Luma-Labs Cinch camera strap.

Would love to hear others recommendations.

Thank you

I use Phat Straps. I love mine, as the inside is "minky", so it's very soft. It also has quick release, which is very convenient.
The down side, their logo is right on the side, so they are promoting themselves that way. It can easily be taken off though, it's just normal stitching.

Some other members mentioned some great one's in an a thread I created earlier. Here: Camera Straps

get a lighter camera.

just kidding.

I'd like to find a longer one. i like to keep my camera strung around my next over one shoulder but the stock strap is too short to swing it up to my eye.

Thanks for reminding of this thread. I forgot to tag it the last time I looked at. Will revisit :)

Lol, I don't know. I'm assuming it's a woman that created them.
But you can have them custom made.

Hi Becky,

I am using a Luma Labs "Loop" strap and love it for its comfort and ability to to quick draw. The Loop does have a tendency to let your camera flop around if you don't support it lightly with your arm or hand somehow (I have mine mounted to my tripod QR plate). This is not a big deal for me, but they seem to have addressed this with the new Cinch strap and were confident enough in it that they canceled production of the Loop (which I think is great) in favor of the Cinch- so one would think it must be pretty good! If construction of the Cinch is anything like the Loop it is very well made.

Good luck with your decision :)

I recently bought a new style of sling strap that i find very comfortable and puts the weight on the shoulder, not the neck. local retailer link for it can be found Here (Vistek site). My only complaint is that the camera hangs upside down, so it takes a little while to get used to it, but when i grab for it to get a shot, it's intuitive to put it up right.
I do have a smaller DSLR which is why i went with the slim, for larger cameras they have the Pro version Vistek Site (Pro version strap).

Not why they stopped... BlackRapid sent suits to bully them out of the loop - even through there are a zillion slings going back decades. I was disappointed to see they just rolled over.... but I understand why. I didn't get a loop because they were so often out of stock, I could never get the loop & extra long strap and extra plate in stock at a single point to order.

The new one does look interesting..... but I have not sprung for it yet (still also thinking about that spider holster but dunno).... They are too much $$ for me right now to just try it on spec.

I used a crumpler strap which I am pretty fond of.

BlackRapid RS series. King of straps, and customer service that can not be contended.

I made my own version of a Black Rapid by using an Optech Sling Strap and added the Black rapid connector and swivel hook. I love it. I would never use another around the neck strap... the sling style really lightens the load.

I like to carry 2 cameras and both of the lens I use are fairly heavy. Cotton carrier This vest puts no pressure on my neck and has a strap that goes around the barrel of my long lens so it's totally supported. I can't say enough good things about it.

My favorite strap was the free one that SmugMug was giving out a couple years ago. I wish I had one for my new camera.

And ... just LOOK at how HAPPY she is with it! (LOL!)

I don't use a strap at all. I love having the camera hang freely from my arm.

But, I do get tired.

I like the look of this one.

I made my own strap. Bought some high quality 1" webbing from a local Mountaineering store, a buckle, a carabiner, and a key chain ring.

The biner slides over the strap so my camera can hang at my hip and easily slide up to my eye in one quick motion. I doubt I invented the concept and there are probably mass produced versions just like mine but I love my homemade strap.

Black Rapid RS. It's really excellent. Only complaint is I can't use my quick release for my Acratec ball head at the same time. However, I believe there is a fix for this coming soon. Regardless, I think it's worth the hefty price and it makes carrying around my hefty gear a little easier and safer.

I use a luggage strap. A couple small split rings and you can snap any removable luggage strap to your camera. Leather or fabric. Some larger luggage straps are contoured for better weight distribution and have non-skid surfaces for better retention. Check out your carry on luggage and see if any of those straps would work. Or even a shoulder briefcase strap etc. The one I use most is cordura nylon with a suede liner.

eta: I rarely have a camera around my neck. Typically it is either on my shoulder or in my hand.

Thank you all for your input. I really do appreciate it. I just ordered my Cotton Carrier. I don't have two large cameras at the moment but you never know what the future will bring :)
They are all good choices. Looking forward to getting it this week.
Again thank you for all your input.

I have just got a Luma Labs Cinch and can confirm it is the best strap I have tried (I have tried OpTech, BlackRapid). Excellent comfort and reliability

Cheers, Simon
