Oh dear... I suggested this topic on a whim. Now, I'm scared.

Here's some help: Palindromes

I do want to go on record as suggesting it as Expert Editing. *rolleyes*

So do we use the Palindromes as our image title?
02/27/2012 12:43:54 AM · #4
I suppose it would be the specific palindrome you've photographed that would be your title, but I have no idea.
02/27/2012 12:47:45 AM · #5
I think it's probably necessary to have the palindrome as your title, so viewers can see what the palindrome is. Some of the ones on that list are so long-winded that they'd be pretty hard to guess!

I guess you could have the Palindrome in brackets if that would work?

Make sure she's named "Anna". :D

I came across the palindrome list while searching for euphemisms...

I have equally no idea of what to shoot for this as I did for that. LOL!

I'm just as interested to see what I come up with.

Ha! Might be easier to find an 88-year-old Anna. ;)

Or even 22... or 11.. :D

Nah, they're a dime a dozen - hahaha - I got it from Wikipedia "A palindromic prime is a palindromic number that is a prime number, for example, 191 and 313."
You don't think I knew that before my bit of research did ya? :p

It's an opportunity! This is basically a free study, just like euphemisms. Make a list of say, 10 palindromes that you like/relate to/are easy, etc....those 10 things are your given subjects. Examples:

Devil never even lived.
Emily’s sassy lime
I’m a pup, am I?
Mr. Owl ate my metal worm.
Nurses run.
Top spot.
Tons o’ snot.
“Rum… rum…” I murmur.
Mad as Adam.
Ma has a ham.

You could do a million different things with those...
The possibilities are endless! :)

Funny - I knew what a palindrome was and the first idea that came to mind was symmetry; iow an image that, viewed side to side or top to bottom or vice versa would repeat itself and start and end the same. I didn't think of illustrating a verbal palindrome until I read this thread. I agree that expert editing might have been a lot more fun for that -- not so much for the creation of it (I'm not an expert editor) as for the viewing/voting pleasure.

interesting challenge, but some of the examples on the website cited above and also here are pretty awkward, if not outright lame...

i'm thinking of going with the more "pure" single word versions, although that is going to limit the choices quite a bit.

I think sinistral_leo should use his split lens device and photograph "A but tuba"

Not that I want to see the but again...

erm.

He probably doesn't need to use the split lens device...

Try this on for size:

S A T O R
A R E P O
T E N E T
O P E R A
R O T A S

This was a graffito found inscribed on a wall at Herculaneum, and dates from 79AD. Look at it very carefully. You'll have to Google to find out what it means.

This could be fun if I'm not too lazy about looking for a specific prop or two and a person to be a model. Found a great palindromic sentence that would translate well I think.

Or I'll just go find something symmetrical to take a photo of...
