Hi i have Canon 1000D with Kit lens 18-55mm, without IS stabilization.IU just bought a 50mm 1.8 lens and i am loving it.I have never shot at aperture low as 1.8.

I like shooting Portraits, Desktop, Street Photography, Structures building .I would love to try some macro also may be like to try some wide angel lens.

Can anyone suggest me what lens should i buy for say Under 200$. I don't mind buying third party lens

New under USD200 I doubt you can find anything.

Even for third party wide angle and macro lenses you are probably looking at $400+ for new lenses.

A highly regarded macro lens is the Tamron 90mm. In a wide angle, a lot of DPCers have the Sigma 10-20mm.

You could also take a look on ebay, see if they are selling anything out there used at a lower price (If you are on a tight budget).

This is still a bit over your budget (a used copy is getting close to your budget), but a relatively cheap lens that can do MANY things pretty well is the Tamron 28-75. It's a constant 2.8, so it's good for lowlight and portraiture, it's exceptionally sharp and has great contrast, and focuses pretty close. Not true macro, mind you, but something like 1:4, focusing just 13 inches away at all focal lengths. It's also pretty lightweight, so it's a good walk around lens. My only problem is that it's AF is slow, but that shouldn't be an issue with the shooting you like. It's not suited for sports though, due to AF speed.

i have the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, see them on ebay alot, one thing they are prone to a ribbon cable breaking and canon offer a fixed price reapair as its a known fault. so just check for that on ebay, had mine done and it was £70. lives on my old canon 20D and that is a good coverall lense that goes from wide to macro ish, not a true macro but used with some extension tubes or screw on macro optical adapters its usable

was my first lens, teh nifty 50 also works great with exntension tubes

just to roughly show these were snapped out my attic window no pp and the 17-85 definitely had the weather gauge

I have seen the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM for less than £200 new on Amazon. I recently had mine repaired and had to pay £165 for the pleasure and I was tempted just to buy a new one. This particular fault was that the zoom was stuck at 17. I have had to send this particular lens for repair 3 times despite taking great care of it. I have read there are some common faults with this lens so beware and be sure to Google it before you purchase it. On the plus side, when it works, it is great and is my only lens apart from my EF 50mm 1.8 . I had planned to get a new lens but finances are not allowing it at the moment:(

that was my only problem with it and its had some hammer over the years, was my only lens for 5 years on my 20d before i got serious again and got my L's

mine gets thrown in backpacks car seats etc its like my beater up combo and my 3/5 yr old is learning to use it

when it broke a mate had borrowed it out of my bag at a wedding shoot in majorca and came over to me and it had locked the aperture up etc (grrr friends hey)

like other poster said, you hardly get anything within 200 bucks. I strongly suggest you to get your first flashgun, Speedlite 430EX II.

this helps to improve poor lit photographs specially when you use your kit lens indoor!

Thanks for replying...I was also thinking trying to use Old Manual Lens from Canon SLR.. by using adapter or something( not sure what is it called). On my next off i will visit shop that sell old lens and what i have read we can use OLD Manual lens. Any clues to what old lens can be used with my 1000D Mount.

You could probably buy an inexpensive extension tube and turn your 50mm into a macro lens pretty easily.

Amazon Link for Canon Extension Tube

I'm not on the up and up with old Canon equipment, but this might be of use.
